I recently purchased a 12ft. guitar cable and two 2ft. cables for my speaker cabs. I can personally vouch for the high quality that Don talks about in his post. It's difficult to imagine a better cable out there for the money. And Tony Farinella is a super good guy. I can promise you'll be glad you tried these.

An old audiophile trick to improve sound is to flip every switch and sweep every pot ten times before powering up in order to improve contact integrity. It's a weekly drill for many. It worked wonders on my old Peavey bass amp. At least once a year we also treat all cable contacts. Caig Laboratories makes the best contact deoxidizer/cleaner I have ever used. Get one of their little DeoxIT kits and treat every switch and contact you can gain access to. The difference may amaze you, especially if you have never treated your contacts before. The Caig Laboratories products beats the more expensive stuff. I have cured many problems in electronic equipment with DeoxIT. My amplified RF antenna was coming on but not operating at all. I treated the power switch with DeoxIT and it has operated normally ever since. Dirty contacts can emit RF frequency noise that plays havoc with RF circuitry and also dulls the sound of audio frequency circuits. The contacts are "arcing and sparking" on a microscopic scale. Similar to switching on an electric kitchen blender and injecting RF noise into your electrical power, but on a smaller scale.
Much of the "improvement" brought about by switching interconnect cables is often due to wiping of contacts and establishing more effective electrical contact. The new cable gets the credit, when the main improvement is often due to better electrical contact. Even gold contacts suffer from dendrite corrosion and need regular cleaning. The longer the cables have been installed in the system, the more dramatic the effect can be. Try treating your old cables with DeoxIT and ProGold and reinserting them into the circuit. For people on a tight budget, a DeoxIT kit will usually be the most cost effective sound improvement, and you can treat the whole band's gear with one kit. I think Parts Express carries Caig Laboritories' products, but I have ordered kits directly from Caig before. This is standard equipment in my biomedical equipment repair tool kit. Many technicians who fix very high end critical equipment use the stuff regularly.

Philco....damn good advice! I use the Caig Labs products on just about everything electrical including amp tube (valve) pins. Put a little DeoxIt on the pins and scrub with the kids toothbrush and that will definately quiet that puppy down....the amp, not the kid.
I even use the stuff on the connectors of r/c model airplanes....those things cost more than the most expensive RIC you can find..including the amp.
The biggest problem is finding the stuff....Caig must have some snag in their distribution policy that makes it difficult for the typical Joe Cheapo Electronico joints from handling it.
You can go to their website and get a free sample of ProGold...more than enough for the average user to hush up his guitar amp.

I just bought two speaker cables and a mic cable from Tony@ Evidence. Wow.......! Amazing the difference. Like somebody took the blanket off my speakers. Mic cable is pretty startling as well. I used it into my "Mbox"(Digidesign/Pro Tools budget program) & iBook. You can hear a vast difference over normal Belden & ProCo stuff. Way more detail & clarity without losing the warmth of my AC-30HW.
Don: I purchased a 15 foot guitar cable "The Lyric" from Tony at Evidence Audio this past week. It arrived after only a few days and it came well packaged with a sheet outlining the design features.
A close friend and I compared different cables, through different amplifiers and with different guitars. I would like to do a double blind study but that can wait.
The cable is very sturdy and, without hesitation, I am pleased to report that there is a just noticeable difference for the better using the Evidence Audio cable. My friend was sold and is buying one. The sound certainly has more presence, depth and clarity. By comparison, all of my other cables sounded thinner and less defined. The Evidence Audio cable is clearly more durable and seems as if it will be able to take a lickin'. Thanks Tony, I consider that it is worth the investment.

Peter; Congrats on the cable upgrade! I love them but. .as always, let Your ears be the final judge. Personally I just can't use anything else now. I just got another 20' a couple weeks ago and have been breaking it in during rehearsals so it will sound great when we go out here and do shows in a couple weeks.
Tony makes a fine quality product at an affordable price. And as a bonus is a great guy and really nice to deal with. When American Airlines lost( actually, it was stolen!) my suitcase last winter I had to get something quick. Tried those one's that Gerald Weber hawking and wasn't impressed. Wanted something that was better than the Munster Cables I had been using for a few years..The Evidence Audio's are what my ear's were wanting to hear. Sure.. call me spoiled..LOL!
