Toasters

Friday night I swapped out the Hi Gains in my 1998 370-12 for a set of Scatterwound toasters. While I was under the hood I also added the .0047mF cap in the treble volume circut...

WOW...what a difference...first chord I hit was the bluegrass G that McGuinn uses to kick off "Nashvile West"...and I nailed it...the guitar had always been kind of...ah...muddy...and even with flatwounds, a treble booster, etc, it just didnt have it...to the point where Id considered selling it....it does now...and I have only played it thru a little Fender SS frontman bass amp that I keep hidden under one of the end tables in the living room...I can hardly put the thing down....

I was skeptical that the pickups would make THAT much difference....but....they have turned my guitar into a jangle monster...

Now I got a set of higains for sale...

I replaced the toasters on my 360/12v64 with 7.4's last week, nice improvement. I didn't change the cap, haven't had a chance to pick one up at RS. Not sure if it will improve the sound much better than what I've got now. Enjoy, I know how you feel.

FYI...as a test I removed the .0047mf cap from the bridge pup in my 60' 360/6 and now it has a slight quack like a Strat but with a RIC flavor.
I'm going to try some different types of caps as an experiment.
I need some strings too...what does everyone like for the 360/6?
Right now, I have D'Addario XL .009 Nickel Wound.

I think the .0047mfd cap is goofy. I took it out of my '67 330 and now the thing sounds like The Truth.

I recently bought a '75 430. It must've been modded in it's past: Some shielding under the pickguard and TWO(!) .0047 caps(in addition to the two .o47 caps). I removed the .0047s and it sounds much fuller/better.

Well, talk about novel ideas. Two .0047 caps! Were these connected in series (which produces the same result as a single cap, for your information), or did the previous owner of the 430 connect the second one in line with the bass pickup?

Sergio, the second was connected to the bass pickup. Why? I don't know! It really sounds great now.
