Jump back!

Now Heaven has a hell of a band.

Big favorite of mine. Who is ever going to fill this void? Spears, Backstreet, Snoop, Green Day?

Live, NOBODY was close.
I'm just happy to be here.

Too bad and only 73, he looked frail the last concert I saw him in (TV) and thought he was older than 73.

Sad personal life, but man what he helped do for music was amazing. He, Ray Charles and Sam Cooke were the foundation of soul music… followed by funk, rap and disco. WOW! The ‘hardest work man…’ can now rest a little.

A true musical giant. One who changed and defined the culture of people and the music.

I always admired the fact that James picked the very best musicians for his bands..Bootsy Collins was an alumni. There is a James Brown box set "The Star Box" along with the Stax box and the Atlantic Records boxes are gotta haves.

RIP James. You were an inspiration to me and many others.

The best examples of his genius, "Sex machine" and "Super bad" were both recorded in one take.

As for who James Brown's own influences were: in "sex machine" he quotes Elmore James's "Shake your money maker" giving props to him.

As is so often true with great art and groundbreaking ideas and their execution, their creators can be difficult souls.

Misfits who have strength of personality create their own reality and through sheer genius and force of will, can show us a new way. By our acceptance, we fit them, on their terms.

Occasionally they clash with society, as in the "stay out of my bathroom/pickup truck chase" incident which sent him to prison while he was in his 50s.

An amazing and unique force in Soul.

He had amazing hair, too.
