Maurice Gibb had some nice white/white Rics, there is a photo of him in the Feb.(?) edition of bassplayer with an early 70's 4001 with a toaster in it, it's a beautiful bass.
I also like White/black. I had two, the first was an early 80's (didn't know how to date them then) 4001 with chrome hardware and a 93 with black hardware. But I've always wanted a white on white and they are much harder to find than a white/black.

Bob-- White finish & white trim does indeed make for a very classy looking Ric bass or guitar. Has kinda got me thinking now about locating an old 4001s beater and fixing it up like that. Whoa!!

Jean-- Thank you for the clarification, I understand what you were trying to say in your previous post now. Mr. Hall may have felt compelled to drop the white finish since the black trim option was discontinued. But some of us, like Bob Young and myself, would love to have a white/white Ric. As has been talked about before, many here like when a white finish ages to cream, but I personally don't go for it. It would be great if Mr. Hall would make the white finish option available again but I can understand why he would be reluctant to do so considering the diversity of opinion on the finish aging process.

Bob-- No doubt you've seen white Fender Stratocasters with a white pickguard. Beautiful!

By the way, I'm not a fan of the reverse headstock on the 4001C64.

This has been an interesting thread.... Loved the photos of the "Apple Corps. green" and the purpleburst.... Really, the purpleburst looks a lot like my dream guitar (a 315 or 325 in MCC blueburst--I can dream, right?) Later I will try to post a photo of one I did in watercolor a few weeks ago.... As far as reverse headstocks go, I don't like them either--it looks to me like there were too many lefty necks lying around at the RIC factory and they had to come up with a creative way to get rid of some.

Okay, here it is.... Looking at it again I think it would look better with three toasters and maybe black pickguard and nameplate, more like the MCC model? I guess it would be like a hybrid of a Susanna Hoffs and an MCC.... Awesome "Ric Chick" guitar just for me.... Yes, today is my day just for dreaming, LOL!

Very nice, Melissa!
You should do more painting of your babies and post them here in a "Rickenbacker Paintings" thread.

Maybe a touring exhibition someday?

Yeah, I think should be another topic to this forum. "Rickenbacker Paintings."

I really like the blue, Melissa. Only if Ric would come out with a color like that. Oh, maybe next year's special color..........

Thanks, guys.... Actually, that was my first attempt at watercolor in many years (it was a rainy day and the kids were bored so I set them up with the paints and couldn't resist getting into them myself!).... I really have no desire to paint my own, because I can just play them any time I want to--this was just a creative way for me to visualize my dream Ric! However, since I did this one the thought has crossed my mind to do a bass in purple or fuschia or some other non-standard Ric color.... Any suggestions, Paul? BTW, I have enjoyed some of your artistic photos of your basses.... A "Rickenbacker Art" thread might not be a bad idea. I realize I am getting way off track here: back to finishes! I love sea green and burgundyglo, and the Montezuma brown is starting to grow on me (at first I wasn't sure); I don't care for Blue Boy or desert gold--those colors remind me too much of the cars driven by the old tourists around here who hog the road when I'm trying to get somewhere fast!

Thanks for the kind words, Melissa.
Taking pictures (of my basses, among other things) have been my love of life besides music making. Great fun!

A 4001/4003 in Purpleglo would be a great subject for your next painting. To boot, no one has seen a real one yet. You have all the space for imagination!

I've been visualizing an "Oceanglo" 4001/4003 in a "sea-watery" finish and white body and headstock bindings like this:

Now the horns would be real "Cresting Waves"...

I like the good old understated solid and burst patterns. . . heavily figured wood hits me as a bit too garish on something as elegant as a rick. Perfect for a PRS or boutique guitar though!

Paul, that "Oceanglo" finish would be absolutely stunning on a 4004....or on a highly figured 381. And John, as far as heavily figured wood goes, nothing is prettier than my 381 in mapleglo!

Those Lucite Dan Armstrongs (made by Ampeg) weighed a ton, they were nice looking though, they have been re-issued also. A Ric would look great like that, but would be heavy and probably sound different.
