Rickenbacker 1x12

Post by rob »

I'm thinking about purchasing a Rickenbacker 1x12, solid state amp. I was told it may need a little work, but the picture I saw seems to show it's in pretty good shape.

I'm not sure what the model is, or the year. It does look like it was probably made close to the last years Ric made them. (1986, I believe???)

I'm just wondering if it's worth it.

Can anyone give me any feedback on how the solid state Ric amps sounded like and/or performed like?

Hi Robert,

I have a Ric, TRB35 which has the word "Road" on the front. Road was a company aquired by Rickenbacker at some point. I love this amp. It is solid state but the sound is very warm. If I crank the volume up on it and play with a pick right above the horseshoe on the neck of my 4001 it is ferocious. It is also a whole lot easier to haul around than my Ampeg B115. It is about half the size and two thirds of the weight. I got it for $149 on ebay -- the top is covered by cigarettes burns so that is cheaper than I would expect to pay otherwise.

Thanks for the input, Gordon.

The 1x12 in question was for sale on Ebay. It started out at a bid of 19.99 in US dollars, but it was sold for a little over 76 dollars.
I decided to pass, because I don't really need another amp, especially one I must tinker with a bit to work properly.

I might still get one down the road. I don't know how much any RIC amp is worth. Probably not a whole lot, I assume. But, if they are like the guitars and basses, I'm positive the quality is amazing.

Maybe someday I'll find a great deal on a keeper.
