Byrds/Beatles band?

Post by steambyrd »

I was just listening to the George Harrison tribute of "If I Needed Someone" on Roger McGuinn's Limited Edition cd, and it got me dreaming about a new supergroup concert possibility. What if the surviving members of the Byrds and Beatles combined to tour? Since you only have two Beatles; McCartney and Starr, but three original Byrds; McGuinn, Crosby, and Hillman, the Byrds would get first naming rights for the group. Maybe: The Byrdles?

Crosby and McCartney in the same band???

That would be unmanageable due to the size of their egos. Worse than Neil Young and Steve Stills in the same band - and they tried that at least twice!
How much!?!

On a similar note, I would like to see Paul and Ringo join forces with Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend and call themselves "The Whotles".

Ain't gonna happen. McGuinn is apparently quite happy doing his own solo thing. I've heard and read interviews with him. He keeps saying something about "...being unequally yoked..." whatever that means.

And yes, I really like his new limited edition CD. Usually covers don't quite measure up to the originals. But McGuinn's arrangement of "If I Needed Someone" may surpass the Beatles' original. Anyway, it inspired me to learn it.

I also really like James Alley Blues, too.

I am going to see McGuinn in concert tomorrow night. I can't wait, and really hope I can get him to sign either my pickguard or my certificate for my 370/12 RM.

Jim, get there early and find Camilla. She'll get it to him, I'm sure of it.

Thanks, Cole. If it were you which would you have him sign?

I'd get him to sign the pickguard. There is just something special about having your hero sign your favorite guitar.

Correction: I am going to see Roger McGuinn this Saturday, not tomorrow night. I'm so looking forward to it that I'm skipping days!

Make sure you have some sort of indelible marker for him to use. You wouldn't want his autograph to rub off, now would you? :-)

Is a Sharpie indelible enough?

I believe that's what Roger used on my pick guard...didn't have to bring a marker.
