The HE-MAN way to fix a bass....

Post by ajish4 »

Hey Paul,

You gotta love this.

How is this for a UNIQUE way to fix a cracked bass!

None of this taking weeks preparing, filling, sanding, blending, painting, clear coating, waxing, wet sanding, just cut to the chase and take a huge freaking screw and shoot it in!

Not to mention that REALLY NEAT metal plate that looks like half of a stress relief for a hunk of wiring...LOVELY! Image

In all fairness, the seller states that he didn't "REPAIR" it himself!

101 uses for spare drywall screws around the house....

Hey, on a useful note, this one makes me opine upon whether anyone had ever made a bass entirely out of machined aluminum.

Dimensional tolerances would be great. But you could never straighten out a bent one properly. Wonder what the sound would be like>

Electrical Guitar makes all aluminium guitars and basses.

I have only tried the guitar, but it sounds very nice. I wouldn't mind if someone gave me one of the basses, but I need to get another 4003 or two before I'll consider buying one.

That 'repair' may be a little unstable, I recommend a couple of 1/2" carriage bolts and steel plates as reinforcement!

...and when they poke through the front of the bass, just grind 'em off...

Yup, use a Dewalt angle grinder, and do the grinding on stage preferably, in the middle of a ballad!

Yeah, BUSTED, Elys. I'd never use that stuff on any Rickenbacker.

(That's all that Google had for "rickweld"--a guy named Rick welding a locomotive!)

I wonder if he ever played it sitting down. If he did that screw would have probably made interesting patterns on his pants (and leg).
