Does anyone know what the material used for making the scratchplates on the Ric bases and guitars is? eg white acrylic or melamine.
I have made new plates when (restoring old rics) out of perspex and then painting the back (like some of the signature models) but when you are really trying to go for the original look.....
Scratchplate material?

Scratchplate material?
I confused Faraday's cage, with Schrodinger's cat box....
Well, if it was made of melamine you could have the same things that are printed on kids plate sets. eg a bunnykins 4001 or perhaps a winnie the pooh 360/12.
I can do the work myself and there is not that many ric tinkers in Australia (but there is a few real good ones!)
I'm moving the neck pickup to the vintage position on my 4003 and apart from making routing jigs etc I will need to make a new scratchplate.
I find the vintage positoning leaves a few more harmonics intact in the tone.
personal choice I guess!
Thanks for the information Don.
