Searchers on video?
Are there any video's, VHS or DVD, of the Searcher's available to purchase? It appears that Amazon has Hullaballu (sp), but I'm not sure this is live or lip sinked. I would love to get a copy of the Tami show or NEMS with the guys playing live.
Any thoughts

There's a series of Ed Sullivan Shows' acts- but I don't know if the Searchers are on them. They are on a multi-volume series of "Shindig", but I don't remember if they lip-synched (I think they did). If they're on Sullivan, it's live, and the original four. On "Shindig", it's Mike, John, Chris and Frank. Hope this helps.

There was a video of The Searchers released of a concert they did in Hull, England in the ninties but it is now deleted and was never really released commercially, although that was the intention.
Don't know if you get The Searchers Appreciation Society Magazine that Tim runs, but I recently did a review of a video I found of an NME Pollwinners concert. Three Searchers tracks live and loads of other groups, lost web address where I found it but sure you can track it down.

Thank's Roy and John.
I have a copy of the Searchers on their one and only Ed Sullivan performance. Apparently Shindig's British Invasion Vol 1 & 2 have they on the show. Amazon only offers this on VHS and it appears that it might not be available. I have been told that the NME Pollwinners show, that Roy refered to, is a must have.
I'll keep searching.

Can't someone please tell the dealers that there are som people very interested in getting hold of this material (pref. Searchers#1 and Searchers#2), VHS or DVD, and willing to pay for it too!

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

Good morning all from the States. I agree Einar...
I checked Ebay last night and was pleased to be the highest bidder on the 1964 & 1965 NME pollwinners concert videos. I have heard about these shows but never seen them. Apparently they include my favorite group, the Searchers.
When I receive them, I will write a review and let you know my thoughts.

Is it from one of the pollwinner's concerts that Chris fronts a rousing version of What'd I say, standing upright behind the drums? A classy performance, I'd be ready to bleed to get hold of this footage!

The Shindig clip is priceless. They're miming to a backing track, & as the song progresses Curtis becomes increasingly naughty & starts hitting the cymbals for real, cracking the band (& himself!) up in the process...
I remember seeing the Searchers on American television sometime in the mid-70's on a Dick Clark "golden oldies" type programme, doing Love Potion. It was shot on film, & I seem to recall close up shots of the guitars during the instrumental bits.
I may have to visit the Museum of Broadcasting here in The Big Crapple & see what they have on file...

Budrocket: Welcome aboard and thanks for your comments. BTW, I enjoyed your site very much. Informative and aesthetically pleasing.

I think you're referring to a show called "Solid Gold". One of the hosts was Nina Blackwood (?) who had been one of the original (or near original) VJs on "MTV". She interviewed John after the show about how the Liverpool bands got their songs. As I recall, John attributed the currentness of Liverpool tunes to the British merchant sailors who brought the records in from the U.S. I have that song- and talking bit on tape, somewhere.

Posititve it wasn't Solid Gold; this was definitely pre-MTV, so I don't think anyone outside of LA coke dealers had heard of Nina Blackwood at that point <g> I saw it when I was visiting my Gran back east in the mid-70's. Definitely a Dick Clark type "solid gold OLDIES" type show, also featuring the Association, Drifters, etc.
They were definitely miming, but it was shot on film, not video tape, a multi-camera affair. The photo on the "Mike Pender's Rickenbackers" page on this site, whole band shot where he's playing his 456-12...it's roughly from that era (in fact the photo is what reminded me of seeing the clips).

AH, that would make sense...it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find the producers used the clip, since it was of fairly recent vintage. Have you seen the clip (or clips) in question Roy?

PS - Forgot to say, thanks Pete for the earlier kind words on my site!
