My new song w/Rick 360/12 VP

Post by profjeff »

Hello Folks:
Here's a link to download my new song (MP3, 4.4 MB). It's a semi-autobiographical piece called "Johnny on Sunday" and it features two guitars: a small bodied Martin acoustic and a Rick 360/12 VP. I injected the 12 string directly into ProTools and processed it with plug--ins. The bass is an older Epiphone El Capitan acoustic bass and the drums were tapped out on my Boss Dr. Rhythm. Feedback is appreciated. I hope there are not too many MP3 artifacts. Warning...there is one mild curse word, so if this is a problem for you, sorry.

Hi Jeff, I just listened to your song this morning, and I like it....the sound is great (love the Ric 12-string!).... And the lyrics are so....honest and searching. You said that the piece is "semi-autobiographical"....would you say that you were "Johnny" at one time, or are you "Johnny" now? The song was rather thought-provoking for me, as I sing and play on the worship team at my church and am very passionate about it (even more so than about my Rics, and that's saying a lot!).... If you (or anyone!) would like to find out more of my thoughts on the "why worship?" question, please feel free to email me: [email protected]. I would post it here, but it's a little off the topic of "all things Rickenbacker!"

Neat tune, Jeff. The line about CNN is stellar.

Thanks for the remarks. I just re-loaded the song. I had a chance to do some mastering using my new T-Racks bundle for Pro Tools. I think the 12 string really pops out of the mix nicely now. I had to eq it differently from the acoustic, so it's not as bright as I would normall have it in the mix. Let me know what you think.

Sounds fabulous. Image I like it even better now.... Are you going to be releasing a CD any time soon?

The new mix really does bring out the 12 string more. I also really like how the vocal is "right there". I know I always bury my vocals in songs with a similar vibe, but it really works the way you've done it.
