When Your Rick is Away .. What Do You Play?

Post by admin »

I thought it might be fun to see what guitar or bass you play when you can't play your Rickenbacker. I'll begin. BTW, I am not trying to start a Revolution here.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I can often be found playing my 67 Vox Constellation IV when i'm looking for that semi-acoustic 60's sound. I also have a few other basses.

My Michael Kelly QAB 2 when the acoustic mood hits me.

And my Epiphone Viola bass makes for nice travel escort when I'm away from home and my Ricks.

You asked for it Dave. If anyone is interested in close up shots of this odd-duck, just say so and i'll post them. I'll also give you a little history on how this bass came to be made and who made it.

Here is a closeup of the headstock. Notice anything different about it? The stringing is backwards, but that's how it was designed. The E string tuner is the farthest away from the neck and the G tuner is the closest.

Stratocasters...

The one on the bottom is the Queen Strat of all Strats.

Thanks, Paul! It was created by my daughter who employed the "Southern Hemisphere Swirl" motif.

By the way, your photographs are extraordinary; if you ever publish a coffee table book or make individual prints available let me know. I have just the place at home for an original Yan...

I play my 60's Eko Violin bass which blows Hofners away in sound IMHO. It actually sounds modern and punchy with flatwounds on it. It's got great single coil pickups in it.

If I not playing a Ric, then it either a left-handed Strat or Seagull S6+ Folk. I don't use the Strat and Takamine pictured on the far right anymore.
