The Searchers' 40th Anniversary CD
Thank goodness, I am still waiting for mine from Amazon.

I finally received my copy oy of the 40th Anniversary Collection. It is wonderfull and a great addition to my Searchers collection.
Does anyone know who sings Pop Corn Double Feature? It doesn't soung like Mike to me. I beleive Cris had departed by then and the only other possibilty would be Frank. But I don't think Frank's voice sounds like that.
Also another interesting tid bit. The beautiful Ric 360/12 proudly displayed in the pacakge could be a picture of George Harrison's guitar. I have seen a picture of his Ric in several guitar books and have noted the slight pick guard crack as seen on the Searchers CD guitar. Look at the crack between the volume controls. I guess there may be others that are sunject to cracking at this particular place. Could be just coincidental.

I received my 40th Anniversary CD today and believe it or not the CD case was "glued" or "melted" shut. I had to break the CD cover and insert the inside piece into a new jewel case. Time to check the quality control department of Castle.

Welcome Steve. I am really enjoying the 40th Anniversary CD as well. It hardly seems like 40 years since I first listened to The Searchers.

Two great songs indeed Steve, don't know if you are aware but on the 30th Anniversary CD it was a different "take" of the former.
For those who may be unaware Steve also produced Mike Pendwer's only solo single IT's over and also wrote the "B" Side "Brothers and Sisters"
Steve is probably too modest to tell you but he has wrote songs for likes of Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman, Sheena Eastman to name just three check him out at www.stmedia.org/. Good to have you on board.

TODAY'S THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
To my small surprise, the "40th anniversary" has been a regular feature on the shelves of my local cd seller. (I also know about 8 people from Trondheim who will be in Gjøvik (400 km. away), to hear the Searchers this weekend!)
But back to the "40th". I must confess I'm a bigger fan of the "30th". The lack of direction is almost painfull, I think, as the years went. Honestly, there are some embarassing moments on this collection. But at least, all the efforts are collected here. I wonder, if you were forced to skip 10 of the less wanted songs from the "40th", wouldn't all 10 tracks be from the second CD? Would anyone even consider to leave out a song from the first??
One point I wish had been more weightened(?) in the written presentation, is the fact that there are 6 different lead singers featured. This is one of the great qualities of the group, so a little more detail about "who sings what" would have been nice, I think. (This also goes for the "30th").

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

Hardly surprising...according to Monty Python, Trondheim is also the site of a ritual folk dance where old ladies are struck about the head with hammers! <g>

I couldn't agree more...I think we could have done without the diabolical German recordings from the 80's, which make my skin crawl. Definitely ill-advised. There are some choice Lp tracks that might've been better, such as McNally's brilliant "It's Time" from the Take Me For What I'm Worth Lp, other RCA/UK tracks, or more from the Sire years, like that great Nick Lowe cover...
Or better yet, as I've said previously, some newly recorded tracks!!

I can only think of one track on the 40th that I would describe as "below par" and that's Somebody Shot The Lollipop Man", but taking the rest as a package there aren't many acts in the world today who could boast such a consistently high standard over 40 years.
There must be six or more tracks on this set that really deserved to be hits but weren't. Thankfully with some help from the fans, Somebody Told Me You Were Crying got some radio airplay with very positive results.

The objective of the "40th Anniversary Collection" was to be a resume of The Searchers 40 year recording career, and this was achieved.
If you want The Searchers on CD 'in depth then the best way is to buy the following CDs: Sanctuary/Castle's 5 remastered albums, "Swedish Radio Sessions" & "Iron Door Demos"; The Bear Family label's "Live At The Star-Club"; Raven's "SIRE Sessions"; Taragon's "Second Take - The Complete RCA Recordings". Sadly, of course, Repertoire's "Rare and Unreleased Recordings" CD and Coconut's "Hungry Hearts" are no longer listed. So the complete Liberty and Coconut tracks are not currently available to buy. One thing to note is that "Somebody Shot The Lollipop Man" on the "40th Anniversary" set is a different version to that issued on vinyl and subsequently dubbed on to the Repertoire album.
