Thoughts on a bass combo amp

Post by marc61 »

I'm looking for a small combo bass amp, that packs a little punch. Something I can throw in my car, and run off to a jam session or whatever.

Any advice, thoughts,opinions?

Found this one...

For weight vs power, that's seems a great deal. Most 2x10 combos I look at are pushing 70 pounds, as was my Nemesis. Oh wait, that is a kg spec of 28, not pounds. Still light compared......

Behringer BXL-3000A. 300 watts, 300 bucks, 1-15" aluminum cone speaker. Bottom octave booster, sound shaper. Compact, but 70 pounds.

I picked up a Line 6 Studio 110 Lowdown Combo for $25 that would be perfect. About 25 pounds, 1 x 10, 75 watts, but loud for its size. Four presets for modeling SVT, Ampeg fliptop and Trace Elliott plus a shred metal sound. Also an interesting synth that may or may not be useful. For practice, you can't beat it. Loud enough for a small gig and a built-in DI, post or pre Modeling. They make more powerful models in 1 x 12 & 1 x 15.

I'm gonna check out a couple at the music stores tomorrow. Never had a line 6. Every product I ever had from Behringer though, has been a great value for the money, so I hope I see one.

Gonna try and see Ampeg, Genz Benz, Ashdown and hopefully see what's up.

Those Line 6 are 250 not 25. Methinks he forgot a zero.

YORKVILLE 200 Watter! That's it. I tried the Ampeg 100 Watter, not enough power. Tried the Eden Nemesis, too clean and sterile. LOVE the Yorkville Bassmaster 200!!

Someone nearby has two of the 400 watter Yorktowns for sale. Hopefully I can check them out soon.

I have a Carvin PB100 I'm thinking of selling. Single knob compressor and noise gate.

100 watts into a single 15. Sounds good., not incredibly loud though.

Yeah, the Line 6 was $225 -- I got a "second" from ZZounds.com. Normal price is $250. Also try the Genz-Benz line, especially the NEOx 40, if you have around $700 to spend.

OK -- I can't type. I meant the NEOx 400, NOT 40.

Ended up picking this up:

Walked into the bass room at Guitar Center, and it just popped out at me. Sounds amazing!500W at 4 ohms/300W @ 8 ohms, weighs in at about 40 lbs.

Took a nice bass(Music Man Sting Ray) and it sounded awesome, but I wasn't convinced, so I took some ****** bass off the wall, plugged it in, and it still sounded punchy and clear. Exactly what I was looking for.

Of course they didn't have enough of my money, so I picked this up too:

Super light, and the small body, easy to play acoustic bass I was looking for.

Marc,

I just played this same amp at a GC on Long Island over the weekend, and I loved it. I started with a cheapo Squire bass that the salesman hooked up to it, but also tried a MusicMan. I really loved the sound. They also had the 2x10 combo there, but I did not try that one out. Did you?

I think I'd like to either get what you got with just an extra 2x10 speaker cab, or go the other way around and get a 2x10 combo and external 1x15 speaker cab. I'll be thinking about that this week!

I couldn't believe how light that 1x15 combo was. Superb sound too.

Enjoy it!

That's funny, was it the one in Carle Place? That's where I got it from. I did just the opposite..MM first, then the Squire.

Never tried the 1x10 combo.I happen to have a 2x10 cabinet, that's why I wanted the 1x15.

PS - Behringer definitely was a close second, and if it was a "for the money" deal, I would have opted for it.

You need to tell them that the name is spelled wrong, it should be Marcbass! Actually, it should be, given the name of the company's owner, Marco.
