The Housemartins
Just flicking through and remember the fond times of the Housemartins Stan played 620s and the occasional 330 heres a blast from the past I saw them a few times in Glasgow. Great Band fond Memories. Norman cook before he became Fat Boy Slim Is on Bass.

Kewl - a blast from the past... I do remember that band... fun! Thanks for posting it.
Re: The Housemartins
I saw the Housemartins in a very sweaty Bristol Bierkeller. Stan was not on form and missed several "solos", but it was a fun gig. I think that he lives around our way (West Country, England) writing children's books amongst other things.
I was in a band which supported Hugh's follow up band - The Penny Candles. He was tense (and intense) and had been in some trouble with the law.

I wouldn't have messed with him - he had the complexion of a butcher's boy - and the axe to match!
Re: The Housemartins
He reminds me of the guy from the goonies."Hey you guyyyssssss"
Re: The Housemartins
And Stan was in The Goons...

Ive spilled my coffee laughing!

Love the drummer's tee shirt. Fun video, thanks.
Re: The Housemartins
Amazing band which influenced me greatly.
I often wonder what they might have become if they'd stuck it out. P.D. Heaton's voice has simply gotten better and better. He did numerous sophisticated pop albums with the Beautiful South, naturally, but it was a different vibe completely.
His new solo disc is a return to his punchy guitar pop roots, but it sounds like P.D. and a nameless backup group to my ears. The Housemartins were a real group.
My favorites include:
'Drop Down Dead'
'We Are Not Going Back' (my anthem!)
'Sheep'
'Flag Day'
'Bow Down'
History may show that this little combo from Hull had a much greater impact than most people realize. I certainly tend to pull out my Housemartins discs a lot more than the Smiffs or the Roses.

"It's sheep we're up agaaainst!"
Yeah, The Housemartins are really underrated, and they're a big influence on my band. Incidentally, Stan's playing a 610 in that live performance.

Top band
Re: The Housemartins
They're a huge influence on my band as well. Let us not forget those fantastic bass lines, courtesy of Norman "Fatboy Slim" Cook. Some of the best melodic bass playing I've ever heard. The funny thing is that he was doing the DJ thing on the side during that time, mixing Run DMC with the Clash, and quite well might I add. Even in 1986, his destiny was set. I'd really like to see those guys do a reunion.
