Best combo amp for a 6 string RIC?
Anybody got the perfect combo for there 6 string RIC? Your go to amp! Just curious.
I'm using a Blackface Deluxe switching between a G12H and Celestion Blue.
I used to use an AC 30 which I really liked but just got too heavy to lug around and it was too much power for my use.

Re: Best combo amp for a 6 string RIC?
My go to is my early '70s Princeton Reverb with a G12M-70 in it.
Re: Best combo amp for a 6 string RIC?
The ol' Princeton. A great amp. I always wanted one of the Tuxedo Princeton that had the blackface with white knobs.
But any of the tube Princetons have great tone when you turn em up a bit and you can because of the lower wattage.
I bet if they issued a limited run of Tube Princeton Reverbs it would probably do ok sales wise if it were reasonably priced.

That's looks pretty interesting. I heard about those but that's the first I've actually seen a picture. Is that like a rack mount attenuator below the face plate??
Re: Best combo amp for a 6 string RIC?
From the front it does look like it is a separate unit, but from the back it seems to be part of the amp chassis!

Howdy,
For raunch, it's my '68 Vibro Champ with it's NOS Brimar 6V6 and Jensen Re-Issue AlNiCO speaker. For clean, my mint red knob "The Twin" does the trick with it's pair of 12-inch speakers. My MG 360/6 sounds, feels and plays great through either. What about you?

Wow, a "Red Knob Twin".....that is sweet. Congrats for playing through one. A pig to lug around the joint for sure, but get a dolly and you're good to go. Eggman, if you ever part with it, you know where to find me. {:=) Regards....Goofyfoot.eggman wrote:Howdy,

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

Man I always wanted to try out a red knob Twin. Doesn't that have the power down switch on it? Seems to me that could be quite useful for small clubs and basement jams.

Howdy,
Kevin: Yes, my red knob Twin ( Formerly it belonged to a little old man from Tulsa who kept it under a cover, in a closet and seldom, if ever played it!), indeed has a 25% power switch and it's good for lower volume raunch. I've done decent approximations of "Get Off My Cloud" this way using my MG 360/6.
My nightclub days are over, and it's only done one outdoor C&W gig unmiked. My 360 was great for "Green River" et al. If one wants to overdrive a single 6L6 power tube w/ the 25% power switch, I suggest getting AlNiCo speakers for a smoother breakup. But the clean tone with the 100% power switch on? As good as any Twin I've heard.
Red knob Fenders are a comparative bargain on the used market. For all you Rickenbacker enthusiasts seeking clean headroom, again I suggest sorting 'round for a low mileage Super 60/112/210 or Red knob Twin. I also have a red knob Super 112 (60 watts, all-tube) and it's clean tone and considerable headroom are amazing.

PS: The Super 60 also came in a "head". Don't forget the red knob Dual Showman head. It's my understanding that red knob Twins are beginning to go up now.

Thanks for the info Larry. Hopefully I can get a chance to check one out at some guitar show or dealer that has one as a tradein.

At 18 watts and a skosh over 25 lbs., this little fella has been a trusty mate for my Rics. Rivera-designed, it's the last or one of the last point-to-point, hand-wired regular production Fender tube amps. Built between 1982-85, the tube lineup consists of a 7025 like a 12AX7 (preamp), 2x6V6GT (power), 12AT7 (reverb driver), and 6C10 (reverb recovery/phase inverter). Two of the knobs are push/pull (volume/lead and treble/mid).
