Your main guitar/bass on stage
Your main guitar/bass on stage
This is a little topic I think would be very interesting...
What is your main stage instrument? Most of you will hate me, but mine is a Fender Strat '62 RI. The Strat has a nice, biting tone to it, and anyone who's heard me and seen me play it before says I look my coolest with it.
I'll admit, I open my current setlist with playing my 660/12 and my lead guitarist (and the only other member of my band) Chris uses it for two more songs later in the set, so don't say my Ric is only an indoor guitar that never sees the light of day.
Last year, my main 6-string instrument was a white Fender Telecaster (Mexican made). It didn't have that sound I was looking for and I wasn't happy until I got the Strat for my main 6-string. Because the Tele was so bad, I used my 660/12 for very special performances throughout last year (and also because the songs I played required 12-string). From November onwards, I've used my Strat most of the time when I play live.

The general rule goes like this: Songs with solos= 330/6 Songs without solos= 330/12

Re: Your main guitar/bass on stage
When I have a 5 string Rick, that is my main bass on stage. Currently, I only have a 4 stringer 4004 Cii in the Rick department, so I've been mainly using my Heartfield DR-5. That's changing this weekend as it's been killing me to leave the Rick at home. As much as it pains me, I've broken down the set into songs I can get away with the 4 stringer and those I simply must have 5.
It sure is odd as hell not having my usual anchoring points and playing at different locations, but I suppose a challenge is good.

Re: Your main guitar/bass on stage
I started on a Strat 30+ years ago for about 4 years.
Then I played almost exclusively Telecasters for the next 25years.
I've had a few Gretsches, Gibsons, and Epiphones over the years with Rics in my recent past but all in all a Tele guy forever it seems.
Now My #1 is my 07 360 JG. Since I got it I don't even play any of my other guitars.
It has it all for me and I don't miss the Teles. If fact I'm looking to get another 360 or 370.
Possibly a 330, although my last try with that didn't work out.

Fender 1973 Telecaster Custom which will be replaced by my Rickenbacker 1974 481 once it has been refinished.

Whatever is at hand.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

Mine is in the picture in my avatar, an '01 Music Man Stingray 5-string. Best 5-string I have ever played, period. (IMHO)

My 4003 Blue Boy.
Re: Your main guitar/bass on stage
I'd say my main go to basses are my '88 V63 MG or my '84 4003S MG AlemRic.

That Rick bass paint job is pretty cool. Did you have that painted that way?

No, I'm afraid I'm to blame.ric330 wrote:Hey Roniamthebassman wrote:Probably a tie between lefty Hofner Beatle and lefty Ric 4001S.

Obviously trying to sim ulate this one with a few of my own touches.
