So who would you vote as The Best Band You've Never Heard?
For me it would be the 1960's British group, The Creation. The movie "Rushmore" featured the most excellent song "Making Time", but most people have never heard of this great band. Eddie Phillips, the guitarist, was the first to use a violin bow on his electric guitar...although Jimmy Page became famous doing it. This is one of my favorite videos on YouTube:

So, who else is great, but never gained their proper notoriety?

Without a doubt, Mark, they were great. I had a helluva time just finding their material. Didn't Phillips wind up being a taxi driver or some such?
Re: The Best Band You've Never Heard
They were quite a good band. This is another band that was at the forefront of the mod movement but they had limited commercial success. They went through a number of personnel changes and as a result Ron Wood was in the band for a short while until he left to join The Jeff Beck Group. "Painter Man" is the only single that I vaguely remember.

Kenny Pickett, the singer, ended up being a roadie for awhile for Led Zeppelin. During sound check, they would often play "Making Time" with him singing. Wonder if Page would whip out the bow then?
Any other great lost bands?

Re: The Best Band You've Never Heard
When I saw the title of this thread, The Creation was the first band that popped to mind.
I've brought this up before, but did you know:
Pete Townsend wanted the Creation's guitarist (forgot his name, sorry) as a second guitarist in the Who.
Same guitarist was using a bow, years before Page.

That might not be true, although you'll find it stated everywhere on the internet. Eddie Phillips himself says it isn't true, but he is vague about it. He talks about it in this interview:shamustwin wrote: Pete Townsend wanted the Creation's guitarist (forgot his name, sorry) as a second guitarist in the Who.

Actually based on my quick read of that interview, Eddie neither confirms or denies the story about being asked to join The Who. Pete Townshend reportedly remembers something about that story so there may be some substance there. I suppose that we will never know the real answer to the question. Both parties have coincidentally developed convenient memories for some reason.
