North of Malibu Needs A Name!

Post by kenposurf »

Paul, myself and the guys have been working on a new song for a comp cd (working title is Earth Surfing). Each band does a surf tune with overtones of a chosen country. NoM is happy do be doing Mother Russia. The song is coming along nicely but still stuck for a name. Maybe Paul can post a garage demo of the tune here. So..we're looking for a title for it. The title needs to have a Russian vibe natch... If someone comes up with one we can use, I'll send them a copy of our cd Impact Zone....Thanks!

Paging Sheena Colvin. Shenna, please pick up the white courtesy phone as your knowledge of the Russian language is needed. :D

I've already come up with a Russian title and a pronunciation, which did not impress the guy putting together the compilation.

(замороженный прибой, translated means "Frozen Surf")

So what we need is an English title.

I am happy to assist if I can. Perhaps post the tune and I'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks Paul,

I have sent a PM to George with my suggestion. I don't seem to be able to send you a PM for some reason.

"Polar bear on surfboard in Norilsk drinking vodka with ice cream".
"Замороженный прибой", hmmmm... "отмороженный прибой" would sound more inspiring. For a Russian listener, of course.
That track sounds a bit like "Цыганочка" ("Gypsy" — a well known Russian/Gypsy dance tune), so maybe a "Surfingboard Gypsy's sorrows"?

"Water Russian Overboard" ... "Quit Stalin and Shoot The Curl" ... too punny, I guess.

I like the second one. Kudos, Gary!

Sheena, it is [what you call] "Gypsy", that you hear repeated a couple of times.

May I suggest Murmansk Beach or something else with the name Murmansk in it.

For those that are unaware, during World War II, Murmansk was the port where the Arctic Convoys landed with supplies provided by the Allies.
