My 4001 is a Dec 68 FG as well, with a serial number just 41 away from the 360/12.

On the subject of RM's Ira, I know of a very nice 64 1997 that may be for sale.
At this time I am looking for a 1993. But thank you for the heads up on the 1997

Mac: Unbelievable beauty. Thanks for these photos.

Mac, nice look there at HL XXXX. It is pictured on page 17 of the Japanese book "Vintage Guitars Vol.2", also known as "I Love 12 String Rickenbacker". In that pic it has black pointer knobs. The pics made me run upstairs for the book because, after all, how many '68 360/12OS MGs are hanging around? I knew there was a good chance they were one and the same. The grain says Yes!

Hey, I read back through your posts. You say it's a '67. Book lists it as December '68. What gives? Is the book wrong?

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

Bob, yes it’s the same guitar as seen on page 17 of the I LOVE 12-String Rickenbacker’s... And yes, it's a 1968. I must have had a senior moment when I wrote my original description (getting old sucks!).

When the guitar was photographed for the book, I had swapped out the to the black pointer knobs because I thought they looked better. Today however, I have gone back to the originals.

FYI… this is one of the best playing and sounding RIC’s I own! The neck angle is perfect (with perfect bridge height) and the neck is dead straight. The intonation is amazing even in the upper register; past the 12th fret…

Here are some additional detailed photos.

Any idea on exact production date, Mac Len? I am a December '68 model as well. My folks took delivery on the 13th.

Mac, those pictures of your Mapleglo OS totally gave me the horn.

As soon as I can figure out the new way to post pics, I'll put my '67 FG O.S. up here too.

The way for The Horn to post The Pictures is through The Photosharing services. I use The Photobucket, but there are Others.

Bob, I have no Idea as to the production date other than what is indicated on the jack-plate. I am not the original owner: I bought this guitar about 12 years ago...

Very unusual maple back on this one. The maple almost looks like an overhead topographical map photo.

Mac Len, don't you also own the '67 360/12 OS pictured on the same page, as well as the '68 360 OS on the cover of the Bacon Book? How about some closeup pics of those?

Bob, The RIC 360db on the cover of the Bacon RIC book was a beautiful guitar. However, I sold that guitar several years ago because it had one major issue that always bugged me… the original owner’s Driver’s Licence Number was carved into the sides of the guitar. I replaced that guitar with this stunning example: a near mint 1966 RIC 360db…
