The Anti-Ed Roman Website

Saw a link to this on another forum: http://edroman.aleclee.com/main.html . Anyone who has ever thought about ordering from him ought to read the first-hand accounts from customers.

Wow, that is some really disquieting stuff over there! Makes me glad I've done business with Mike Parks, one of those kind of experiences would be enough to have put me off internet buying completely...

i did buy one of my ricks from ed roman....stock 330/6 JG.....decent price, shipped well, set up well on receipt of instrument......with all i read about the man, though, i would be hesitant (or reluctant) to order any custom guitars, upgrades, or modifications.....

If you order a new guitar from a reputable manufacturer with a factory warranty from Ed, you should be OK as the manufacturer will take care of you. I would be hesitant on custom stuff. He has a Las Vegas showroom, and that's where I would go for the custom stuff, if I was to buy from him again. My Tacoma Chief arrived well packed and in excellent shape. A call to the factory revealed that Ed was one of Tacoma's biggest dealers. I think Ed is shunning internet sales of Rickenbackers, based on his rating system that gives Rickenbacker a 1-star rating, but is stocking a lot in his store for walk-in sales anyway, where he doesn't have to compete on price with the internet guys. He wasn't anywhere near competitive on the price of a Hohner B2ADB bass (Steinberger copy) when I checked his price against several other internet dealers. However, he DOES have the bass professionally setup before it gets shipped, and the price is OK considering the setup if he actually does one. Adjusting the Steinberger bridge, and getting it spot-on, is no pleasure trip, as anybody who owns Steinberger, Spector, or Hohner Steinberger copies knows. I wouldn't order a Rickenbacker bass from him, but Mike Parks, Rhoads Music, or Pick of the Ricks instead.

I ordered my 4004cii from him when I was in Vegas. He was very nice, called me when it came in, did a get set-up on it, and shipped it without any problems.

I'd order from him again.

My head hurts.

I haven't checked with a ton of online Ric dealers, but from what I have seen, ER allegedly has the largest selection of Rics in stock.

Is he going to be anywhere near competitive on price? Am I nuts for even considering it?

I bought my 360/12 from Ed because he had the guitar with the color that I wanted where the other online dealers did not at the time. His price was also very cheap.

I found him to be somewhat brusque on the phone, but I did get the guitar quickly. The big problem was that it came with NO WARRENTY CARD. In a way this did not matter because I ended up having to have the 12 saddle bridge installed anyway, which voided the warrenty, but still, it would have been nice to have.

When I called up a number of times to get it, they were rude enough where I did not bother anymore.

I recently bought a bass at Pick of the Ricks and could not have been happier.

I don't know if I would buy from Ed Roman again. Only if he was the only dealer who had what I wanted I suppose.

All I can say is that Mike Parks is the man. My girlfriend got my '03 MB 4003 from him for my Christmas gift & he treated her great. I wasn't in the loop on it (obviously) & he politely explained everything to her - including the vintage case I begged for!

I've dealt with him for accesories/parts for my older Ricks & he's been nothing but accomodating.

Why go anywhere else?!

I ordered my 4004cii from Ed, had no problems at all. Maybe I caught him in a good mood, but I'd buy from him again.

The last time I was in Vegas, he had a ton of Ric guitars in stock, and only 5 basses.
