Rickenbacker sighting

I finally recieved my four CD copy of "Nuggets (Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era)" One of the eye candy photos inside include a 4001 and a 360/12. Also, the band photo of the Castaways ("Liar, Liar") show them holding a 4000 bass and a 360.

Yes, Castaways bassist/lead vocalist Dick Roby played a 4000. Bob Folschow played a 365.

The Nuggets collection is one of my all-time favorites.

I've said this before (I think in response to your pointing Dick Roby's Ric then, too) but that little bass hook in Liar, Liar is one of the best bass sounds I've heard. Makes me want to get a 4000 with a horseshoe pickup, put on some old flatwounds and play with a pick. No play is not the correct word for that sound, pluck with a pick. or maybe even plunk! hahah

A friend of mine here bought a video of The Ed Sullivan Show's rock acts (didn't catch the name of the video) down through the years. Steppenwolf were on in probably about 1969 playing both Born to be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride and they all played Rics, the bass player had a really nice MG 4001, and the guitar player had an old Green (I think) Ric with a horseshoe pickup on it, it looked like one of their fifties guitars. They also had all Transonics stacked behind them so they looked like inverted salt shakers, one cab on top of another with the wide side in the middle and the thin ends top and bottom. John Kay didn't play guitar in either clip.
They also has The Jefferson Airplane on live and I think it was Jorma Koukanin (sp?) with a MG 360, what a sound Jack Cassidy had with his Guild Starfire bass and Fender amps, he sounded just like their records.

Ha! Looks like the bass player can't quite figure out how the guitar player got his instrument to hang like that. Lol.

That's looks like the same clothing they are wearing, same bass and guitar also.
Ed Sullivan asked the them each who their favorite bands were and most of them said The Beatles and other bands like that, Ed was polite, oh yeah, etc. When He asked the bass player he said something about liking The Fugs a new band from Greenwich village. Ed said oh that's nice, The Frogs, haha! The bass player had to get his attention back and tell him, no it's the FUGS, not The Frogs, a typical hilarious Ed Sullivan gaff.

The Ric Combo guitar in the picture above (with the one horseshoe pickup at the bridge) is at the Ric Factory. It has a great burst.

Unless I'm mistaken. But I'm pretty sure it's THAT one.

I once e-mailed Michael Monarch about that Combo 800. He vaguely remembered it... and thought it was a "prototype" of some sort. He seemed a bit surprised to learn it was a 50s model.

Kenny. Do you actually work for Rickenbacker? Just wondering. I know you did the NAMM booth for them and you always seem to have some insight into the innards of Ric. Are you on the payroll?

lucky indeed I usually work 7 days a week (feels like eight)
Anyway, back to ric sightings, surfing, saw an '80's band called Prefab Sprout on VH1 and the bass was a white with black pickguard 4000 something.
