You have every reason to be proud and every reason to brag John, you seem to have raised an exemplary family! If only I had been that clean cut and on the ball my whole life!

Unfortunately, I was the kind of kid Jake seems to be (Note:pure speculation, I've never met you Jake, but I see myself in your behavior, haha)

I rarely gave in school work, though I understood it easily. did great on most tests and exams, but not giving in work always dropped my grades, into University, I had no concept of studying or time management... MAN did that have to change!

Ended my first semester with 2 failed classes and a 1.8 average or so. second semester, not much better. 1 failed class and a 1.87 average for the year.

by then I learned methods and such. This year, I finished my first semester with a B- average (2.7) and If I'm lucky, it'll be on the rise again after this next semester!

Sittin' here puffing on a Montecristo #2...my flu bug is over and tonight I'm treating myself.

Ah, kids...my eldest Andrea (38) has just purchased a loft condo in Madrid...she's got 3 degrees, but it's her two Masters--one from Fletcher and another from INSEAD--that enabled her to make the jump that I once dreamed of for myself. She's a world traveller for her consulting business, and currently is commuting weekly from her home in Spain to her job in Casablanca, Morocco.

My youngest (Juliana, 10) who many of you have met, is top of her class and also singing with the San Francisco Girls' Chorus, Second Level and will move to Third this September. I've got great faith in her as a student and as a musician. She sang at her school's talent show (populated mostly by kids who think talent is being able to fart with an armpit), a Dori Caymmi song, "Sabado em Copacabana", in Portuguese, with the soundtrack provided by yours truly, quadruple-tracked at home on Brazilian classical guitar, Rick twelve-string acoustic (double-tracked) and Hofner bass, and a slide show of Rio in the background that I also put together. She rehearsed the thing twice, and kept an audience of about 300 adults completely enthralled for two and a half minutes and then brought down the house...with a cold and fever, to boot. We had FUN!!!

Yeah, I'm a proud papa. Wife, Dalia, has her own singing debut at a club in Sausalito tomorrow night, with Dave Getz' jazz band as backup. She'll be singing a selection of bossa nova tunes from the '60s. Dave Getz is co-founder of Big Brother and the Holding Company, and was introduced to Dalia at an annual block party last January.

So, it's music all around for us. But, without our "day jobs", we'd be starving. I never forget that!

Here are The Gurlz at Café de Vino last night, performing with Dave and Joan Getz and their Jazz quartet. Dalia sang "Ela é Carioca" by Jobim, and "Falsa Baiana" by Gal Costa. Then--surprise--Juliana began her career as a jazz chanteuse (hmmm...gulp...) by singing "Mas Que Nada", by Jorge Bem, all to a packed house of at least 30 people. Small place, excellent food, great crowd.

Second set: Joan, Dalia, and Juliana doing "A Garota de Ipanema" (Girl from Ipanema) by Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, with only piano and bass accompainment--Dave (background, red gimme cap) went out for some fresh air.

They've got a return engagement April 12th. I might even sing one or two jazz standards.

I don't know if I want this guitar now. My mom said she's not getting it for me any time soon, and I better just keep waiting. At that point, I'm probably going to have enough money to get another Ric!

The kind of Ric I'm desiring is not a 1997, or any other RM model, but a vintage-style RI 360/12. I'm wondering if I should get another Ric or go ahead with this Fender.

WOW <shaking head>...Jake, at this point, I think that it would be MUCH, MUCH better to just sit on your money until the summer. By then you'll have had some time to get yourself together in school as well as maybe save up some more cash. Maybe you will have also had the time to make up your mind on which you want and go with it.
