Is Anyone Else Gunning For This 4005?

Post by Scotty_Guitar »

It's on fleabay (item # 320226748377). I'd hate to run up the price much, especially since I'm of limited funds. But this (or a JG) is my "DREAM BASS!" And this one definitely looks sweet.

Any bets on final price?

That is a nice looking 4005 but no matter how hard I try I can't come up with an easy way to fund one of these expensive basses. It still kills me that a guitar shop here in town back in the late 70's early 80's had a 4005 from the 60's for $750.00. Oh ,if we only knew then what we know now.

She is a purdy one. In fantastic condition and beautiful 70's fireglo.

I'm not sure where it'll end up, but...Good luck!

Thanks for wishing me luck guys. I think it'll fetch nearly double the starting price... I definitely haven't got that kind of cash... And I DO need my house and car!

Wow that's nice but I don't see anything like that in the future :D
I hope it finds a good home (I'm sure it will).

$6700.00+. A really good price considering the winter auctions...

I don't know why, but I've noticed that the price gap between 60's and 70's 4005's is nowhere near what it is between 60's and 70's 4001's.

Because there are loads of '70's 4001's and not so many '60's era. For 4005's there aren't many period. That's my guess anyway.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing Jeff.

A 60's 4001 has a completely different perceived value compared to the late 70's stuff. The latter is mass produced in comparison, but I don't think that's the whole answer.

That was a lovely example, in wonderful condition, but it doesn't have all the goodies. and to fetch close to what the 60's version commands makes one wonder...
