Hi-gain pickups and the high E string

Post by jamesvwaal »

The high E string on my 6-string doesn't seem to put out as high a signal as the other five strings. I know that the E is smaller, of course, but it seems that the problem may come from a slight misalignment of the string over the hi-gain pickup (this is for the bridge pickup). The hi-gains have six small plastic "bubble-dots" (is this a technical term?), one for each string. On the bridge pickup, the high E string barely goes over its bubble-dot due to a slight misalignment and I am wondering if that is what weakens the signal for that string. What thinkest thou, Don?

Notice how the string centers on each dot but the far right one (high E).

I needs to be over the pole. you may want to try recutting that slot over the pole to line the string up. also, you didn't say what guage string it was. If you're using a .009 it may not be near loud enough. go with a .010 or a .011(my preference). also, have you tried another string as you could have gotten a bad string.
