Post by VRICKY63 »

I decided to re-install the HB1s on my 4004Cii . I just want Volume and Volume . I never did turn down the treble anyway . The neck pickup has only 2 wires but the bridge pickup has 4 . Directions please .

Hi . This is Ricks wife Louise . Rick cut the blue wire and is no longer with us . I left his remaining Rickenbackers in the front yard for the Salvation Army to pickup .

Hi. Louise! Before you put the 4004Cii out to the curb, do the next guy a big favor and wire it like this:

On the pickup with 4 wires, tie the black wire and the clear wire (plastic covering is clear) together, solder, and put tape on them to insulate them. Next put the blue wire (after you put it back together where Rick cut it) and the shield braiding together, and solder them together. That prepares the pickup for wiring to things.

Now for wiring to the switch. I need you to tell me if the wires from the pickups you are replacing are still attached to the switch. If they are, then just pay attention where you disconnect the pickup wires (only work on one pup at a time) and then put the HB1's wires in the same place, shield to the pot body, center (red?) wire to the switch.

If the pickups are gone, then it gets more dicey and I'll need a closeup picture of the control cavity, as my 4004 has concentric pots and is not original.

We'll get there yet!

Wow ! I was headed for the light and told I had to go back and finish the bass . I had toasters with concentrics . No switch . I wired the HBs in like the toasters but they are not working independently . They only work with both volumes on full . So I can leave the concentrics in and re-wire how ? I have the neck pickup wires red to center post on the pot and blue to ground (pot body) . The bridge pickup is wired the same with black and clear together .

Hey, great to have you back among us, Rick!

If you are working from dual concentric wiring, pull out the two capacitors - one from each of the dual pots. That will remove the tone circuit. You have the pups wired correctly, sounds like. Yes, when in mono with no switch, you will affect both pickups. Check the wiring on the volume pots. One end tab is to ground (usually soldered to the body of the pot), the center tab is soldered to the third tab on the other end of the pot, then the red wire from the pup goes to those two tabs. The shield to the body of the pot. The two pot bodies need a wire between them. Now a wire goes between where the two pup's red wires on the pots, tying them together. Lastly, the shielded wire from the jack has the shield to a pot body, and the center wire to the nearest volume pot's red wire. A schematic for those following all this:

Hope this is clear.
