Groovy Beatles pictures
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
Here is a picture disc from my collection---this was posted on this sight two or three years ago, but it fits perfectly here. I've never seen this image anywhere else.

Another from my collection----a signed original wire photo from the Daily Mirror, with news of George and Patty's recent marriage on the reverse.
Re: Groovy Beatles pictures
And one more, taken by me in Washington DC at RFK stadium, July 4, 1990. We had tickets for the July 6 concert, and came in on the 4th to see if we could get tickets for that evening's show. We walked up to the ticket booth and were told what we already knew---they were sold out. At the same time a gentleman came up wanting to return his two tickets----at the window he sold them to my buddy and me for cost---$27 or $28 each. We couldn't believe it. Anyway, we were told that McCartney was coming in any time for a sound check. We went out to the entrance road to wait. About 1/2 hour later, up the road came a small caravan of 3 or so cars. There were 6 or 8 fans milling about----that was it. McCartneys limo slowed down right were we were standing. McCartney yelled out, "How ya doing, folks?" I'll never forget that line from him to us!
This shot was taken just after he arrived from England after performing at Knebworth----he left the American tour for a few days to perform for the charity concert. In this picture, he has just returned from England to resume his tour, and is wearing his Knebworth sweatshirt.
About 1/2 hour later, he started his sound check----pretty much at full volume. It lasted about 45 minutes----you couldn't really see anything, but you could here him play classic 50's rockers---quite a thrill.
Incidentally, this shot was taken on an old Fujica 35mm SLR----being a complete photography novice, I had to meter and focus ahead of time for the spot I wanted to catch him at. To this day I am amazed that it actually came out.
"How ya doing, Folks?"

George's pick looks like the small, rounded 'jazz' style from that angle, but actually the Beatles used these:
