That Cii/5 looks great Joey! the Cii/5 I had briefly (should have kept it) didn't suffer from much volume drop off on the outer strings either.....it certainly was zero issue when running a nice compressor.
How's the gold hardware holding up? My LK hardware is trashed looking after reasonable use. Maybe since you don't have the p/u trim rings your 5-er has faired a little better.

Brian, if anyone had heard the sound clip that of the trans red Cii/5 that used to be on my website, they wouldn't have noticed a volume drop off from any of the strings. The gold hardware seems to be holding up well. I do my best to avoid getting sweat on the gold parts of my Cii basses. I always keep a soft cloth handy, I use the cloth between my fingers and the keywinds to avoid sweat getting finger oils on them.
The Cii/5 that you used to have is a really nice one. Erik showed it to me. I can see why you would wish that you kept it.
I have a non RIck 5 string bass that has gold hardware, which didn't hold up for long at all. I think the gold plating on the Rick hardware is much better than what's on that bass (TUNE Bassmaniac 5) has.

Joey - the 8's original birthday is next month.... I'll see if I can email you some. Been trying to get time to do shots for the registry, but that is a very precious commodity these days.

Re: Memorium - Your Guitar's Manufacture Anniversary

This July marks the big 4-O for my 1968 4001 MG. It was manufactured during the year of possibly the most significant social change in our history - the US as well as most of the world. Coming off the free-style high of the summer of love, 1968 proved to be a time when people of all colors voiced protest of the dominant paradigm. It was a time of endurance while we watched the war in Vietnam get uglier by the day, the assassination of both Martin Luther King Jr. and Bobby Kennedy. On the upside, some incredible and timeless music was spawned as a result of the socio-political tension: The Beatles 'White' Album, Van Morrison's - Astral Weeks, The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet, Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland, Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues, Cream - Wheels of Fire, The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat, and... of course, The Perry Como Christmas Album.

The '68 Deluxe is still going strong, and my #1 player. I purchased it in 1996 from Mike Lull (Mike Lull's Guitar Works) for $250. The word "Stranger" is spray-painted on the case - perhaps the name of the band a previous owner was in... I'll have to research that for next year.
