Condenser Mic Bargain

Post by kiramdear »

I just picked up this package at Bananas music in San Rafael. Thirty dollars below sale price brought these babies home for $120.

Of course you need one of these, which I found in a local pawnshop for twenty bucks.

I'll post again after I try them out.

I used the big one for some vocal tracks today. I don't have any others to A-B it against except my SM58. Apples and oranges, but I will say the juice is sweeter with the new condenser, as you'd expect. I like the sound of my voice 100% better with a condenser, I knew that's what I needed so I took a chance on what I could afford to get for these recordings. No problems, from a completely non-technical perspective the AT2020 improved my vocal sound quite a bit. I feel confident to finish the project with these mics.

Hey, that was a good deal, Kira. It's always a great feeling when you can noticeably improve your sound without having to spend a lot to do it. Sounds to me like it was 120 bucks well spent. Let us know when some recordings of you using the new setup are ready. I'd love to hear 'em.

A great find, Kira. I have enjoyed the Audio Technica line which is good quality at a fair price. We await your next creation.

Thanks, guys.Your words are encouraging. Look for my new song, "Dominoes" in a few days over in the "...recordings by forum members" forum. I'll finish the vocals today hopefully; most everything else is done, 'cept for the lead guitar.
The real bit of luck was finding a cheap power supply for them at the moment I needed it. That one normally is $60.

I used ATs for years, They are such an honest product and work in a in=out way:
If you put somthing good into it, It sounds really good! But f you have a badly set up instrument, dead strings etc, the AT mikes will record your sound with pristine rotteness....
Very good mikes, Kira you should get a lot of milage out of them!

No, I didn't use the software. I was tackling Logic at the time. Is it useful?

You forgot to mention bad voice Eden. That's why I like to use mikes that totally distort your vocals...

Not an issue for Kira, of course!!!

Har!

My friend blows harp through a mike he calls the "green bullet". I think it came out of an Army camp PA system so you can imagine the sonic quality  but what that thing could do for a blues harp! Before the show you could also use it to nail the drum kit to the floor   pretty rugged

I don't know. But the price seemed like such a deal, I'm thinking about pruchasing that gear in March or April, and since the software comes with from MFI....
