How Pale the Moon

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

Here's another new one, sort of an Alternative Country, love-songy kinda thing.

How Pale the Moon

How pale the moon
Still upon the western mountaintops and watching from the sky
Like a silver eye
How smooth the hair
Curving like an auburn river down your shoulders ‘round your breast
As we get undressed

Love will shine its timeless light
Under blankets of the night

How soft the kiss
First upon your shoulders with my eyes, my hands, my fingertips
Then my tender lips
How warm the wind
That will dry our kisses as we lay here in the sand tonight
By the riverside

Love will shine its timeless light
Under blankets of the night

There are moments when a lover, will surrender to the other
And no whisper is as tender, as the sigh before surrender

How pale the moon
Walking home while list’ning to a nightingale’s sweet serenade
To the love we made
How smooth the hair
As you lay beside me in the resting shadows of our room
And how pale the moon…how pale the moon

Love will shine its timeless light
Under blankets of the night

How pale the moon
How pale the moon…

I'm blown away, man! Where did you come up with that?

Lyrics, first class.
Singer very good, is that you, Mark? I like how the voice breaks that once in just the right place and manner.
Production sensibility of "All Things Must Pass", and the middle eight especially was very Harrison.
Arrangement, mix, perfect.

Any ricks in there?

How deeply soothing to experience that song. Just carried me right off and brought me back too soon. Would be a nice song for K.D. Lang.

Keep it up, Mark, but leave some room on that CD for me! just kidding

Thanks Kira! How Kira the Moon?

First and foremost, anytime you hear a bass in a song of mine, rest assured it's a 1972 Burgundyglo 4001 with checkerboard binding and full-width mother of pearl inlays. :P

The lyrics are by an Arizona man named Robert George. He's my favorite lyricist on the internet, and we've done about a half a dozen songs together this year. He keeps kicking out lyrics, about three or four a week, and posts them on various songwriting sites. When I see one that grabs me I wrap some music around it. If I ever had a Robert Hunter or a Bernie Taupin it would be him. And yeah that's me on the works.

I wasn't really thinking George Harrison this time around, but I catch your meaning now. I think this mix is a little too reverb-heavy (and so is All Things Must Pass), and I'll probably lose the instrumental bit after the first chorus and go right into Verse 2.

What a nice post...thanks Kira!

I think it was over too soon. Maybe 'cause I been working on a real nasty rabble-rouser all day, HPTM was like the perfect refreshment from trying to channel Keith Richard  I wouldn't shorten it a bit. :) I guess it was the sound of the pedal steel and that nice full acoustic guitar sound that made me thing of ATMP.
