Beck/Page Yardbirds in "Blow Up" clip. :)

Post by paologregorio »

I'm sure that many of you have seen this clip numerous times, as have I, but I always get a kick out of it, especially the very end part, so I thought I'd share it via You Tube. You ought to get a kick out of it as well Brian. :D

Thanks, Paul, that's great.

The first of three English language films that Antonioni did for Carlo Ponti, the other two being "Zabriskie Point" and "The Passenger"

Here's a bit of trivia from Wikipedia:
In a scene near the end, The Yardbirds perform "Stroll On". Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck play side by side until Beck smashes his guitar copying The Who. Michael Palin of Monty Python's Flying Circus fame can be seen very briefly in the crowd in this scene,[citation needed] and future media personality Janet Street-Porter can be seen dancing in stripey trousers. As Hemmings enters the club where The Yardbirds are playing, a poster on the entry door with a drawing of a tombstone contains the following epitaph: Here lies Bob Dylan Passed Away Royal Albert Hall 27 May 1966 R.I.P. — an obvious reference to Dylan's use of electric instruments during the performance.
All I wanna do is rock!

The film is OK IMO, but it's seeing the Yardbirds that makes it memorable. They performed the song that they did because they couldn't get the clearance to play the real version of "The Train Kept A-Rollin'", hence "Stroll On". Thanks for posting the vid, Paul.

My pleasure. Glad you like the video :D I would agree completely on all points: the movie's no cinematic masterpiece, but it's a fun look at some of the local period scenery and styles, and having the Yardbirds in the movie is definitely it for me. :D I knew about the "Stroll On/Train Kept a rollin" bit, but I forgot to mention that part  .Thanks for filling everyone in. I think it's cool that the Yradbirds managed to record versions of both songs. I actually like the "Stroll On" lyrics better, I think. :D

I'm with you on the "Stroll On" lyrics for the most part, but I love the instrumental backing for "Train Kept..."
