Possible, but if is in playable condition, the bass should sound okay, I hope.myfretless wrote:Sorry for the confusion Jeff. I intended to say what John got out of it. I am sure your 4005 is wonderful and sounds great.
However, if you find a beat up 4005 for just $3,000 and it is your intention to be recording with it, I am going to guess that you might want to find a better one, even it you pay more, if it is your intent to be recording with it as one that is that beat up, it probably isn't going to satisfy you.

Can a 4005 nail the sound of Paul McCartney's Hofner Beatle bass?

I'll have to do a comparison...JakeK wrote:Can a 4005 nail the sound of Paul McCartney's Hofner Beatle bass?

Re: 4005 bass
There's a nice 4005 that just showed up on Ebay. It's at Olivia's, so it ain't cheap, $15,900 BIN. It's a 1966 double bound, so the price might not be too bad...

And I can't help noticing...
From Olivia's pics, it looks like that front body binding bugged the absolute HELL out of someone's right forearm for many years.
The guy probably finally wore his wrist down to the point where all of his blood poured out after a gig!

I guess I should have said "the price might not be too bad... for something from Olivia's".
Way over priced in my book. But, the OP was looking for a 4005, maybe it's what he's looking for.

Re: 4005 bass
The double bounds look boxy and not as elegant to me. I know they are more rare. Still, a 4005 is a 4005.
I have flats on mine, and have had tape wounds at one point. You can always get the piano punch and growl, and I feel you can get a close approximation of the Macca sound.
