Work in Progress- Rics akimbo!

Post by dogload »

Here is my most recent sonic outing... still needs lyrics adding to it.
BUT it debuts my newly refurbished Fireglo 360 that I bought as a butchered carcass. (Why oh why did I not get one of these years ago?! It's lovely!)
I'm not too sure about parts of the tune (I like the last parts, when it gets heavy, but have concerns about the 'maypole' sections) so would appreciate thoughts/criticisms/ego-massages, haha. Anyway, here it is:

New One

Recorded on Cubase SX
The 12-string is my 360/12 JG.
The two 6-string parts are the 360.
Bass is my old Hohner Arbour JP-alike, whilst the drums, piano and mellotron are VST plugins (Battery, Pianoteq and MTron, respectively).
The phone noise is an accidental recording of my mobile (custom ringtone, lol)

Crikey!

Answering my own posts... hmmm.

I've now added vocals (version 1, lol), tidied up loose ends. I tried one of those autotune type things on the vocals, and it made them even more out of tune, so it's probably a case for a partial re-re-record.
Anyway, $4 a pound.
Here it Is.

Mark, How cool! How did you slip past me with this one?

Do I smell patchouli in the air?

I get very good vibes of Jefferson Airplane meets Pink Floyd in this song. I have a little trouble getting some of the lyrics but the ones I hear have that British youth-protest (i'm hearing Clash) feeling. Very cool ingredients for a great song. The length is fine, it doesn't feel like five minutes yet I feel like I shared a nice little psycho-holiday with you. You really don't need a lot more to tie it together cause it's hanging nicely already. There's a very strong period atmosphere to it that I like overall. I'm curious how you'll finish it.

I don't know how hook-happy you are but they can really send the song home with the listener, repetitive and trying as they can be. That'd be my two centavos: You need a hook, either vocal or guitar. Or maybe that's too old fashioned for this feeling ... your call.
Who was it said you need a high tolerance for repetition to play rock and roll? Oh yeah, I think it was Pete T.

Sorry about the soupy vocals. I guess it might be to do with the amount of patchouli and the new blue led fairy lights I've installed in my studio- they must have a pschological effect as well as making my dayglo guitars erm, glow and give me bug-eyes and a slight headache!... interesting that you pick up that it's youth/protest though! The Clash though- thankyou.

Yeah I know- I'm rubbish at choruses. But if you're talking repetition to the point of leaden monotony, well-you may already have heard this one
