What does anyone who owns one of these amps think of them? How good do they sound with a Rickenbacker? I saw one at a shop in New Orleans (International Vintage) and I was thinking of trying it out with one of the five Rics they have in stock.

Well, I just said that so Jake doesn't have to add another thing to his gotta buy list. If he tries it and likes it then the ever-growing list will get longer.

Get the guitar first, then work on the tone. I play through a Crate 15-watter 95% of the time - the full rig's only worth it for band practices and gigs.

I want something that's isn't too big and isn't too small. I'm slowly saving my dough. I've got a few (good quality) pics of the Strat so I can sell it. I do like the looks of Deluxe Reverb, too...IVG has one for a reasonable price, and it's a lot less than an AC-30 HW2.

Hi, Jake:

This is my first post on the forum and a good place to start.

I own a "Custom Vibrolux Reverb", which was a trade-up from a Deluxe Reverb re-issue a few years ago. The CVR has a nice distinctive sound... "Fendery" but different. The amp, like Custom Shop Vibro-King, has no negative feedback loop, so it is inclined to "hiss" a little bit, at idle; not enough to make a difference in my mind, but some players are bothered by this characteristic.

The amp is very sensitive to pick attack and is very responsive to the nuances of a players style. The amp with two 10's is efficient and "loud"; it is more of a playing out kind of amp, rather than a practice amp. If you need both, the DR-RI will most likely be a better fit for you, as you can always mike the DR-RI and run it though the house mains.

I am in the process of having a "VibroClone" version of a '64 Vibroverb built up, utilizing a Bandmaster- Reverb chassis, "black-faced" and installed in a custom cab with a 15" Weber California speaker. I have been acquiring the "bits and pieces" on this one for a while, and I suspect it will have a killer sound, especially with single coils, like my Rics and Teles.

Good luck in your quest for your grail amp... it may take a while, but it will be worth the effort.
