One of the guys in our cyberband wrote this tune. It's folk/rockish. This is a rough cut to get our bearings but I'd like your thoughts on. It's titled "Lost Days(Waiting For You). I laid the Ric 12 to it and some reply harmonies in the chorus.
(4:10 Minutes @ 10Meg @ 320bits) I hope you don't mind the size. But bigger is better right?
I like the song very well. The guitar quote from "Feel A Whole Lot Better" is nicely done. The only thng I wonder is if the vocal tracks can be brought forward a little more, especially the lead.
You have a fine beginning. My suggestion is to vary the arrangement from verse to verse to create more of a changing landscape for the listener. The 12-string noodling sounds fine but I'd save it and highlight it in an instrumental verse of its own. During the verses I'd decorate with more of a background inst., organ, strings, and add or omit other instruments for dramatic effect. The progression is strong and quickly assimilated so go ahead and vary the arrangement, you won't lose us and we'll enjoy the ride. Try to get more out of the drum sounds or supplement them with live percussion. The intro/outro are good, maybe use the 12-string more prominently there.
Maybe listen to some Eagles for some tips with the arrangement. Vocal sound and presence need attention too, and more background vocal layers would build depth. Again think Eagles, mid seventies. It seems more like a country song the way it stands, not really folk and it wants to rock more, with maybe some wild-card instrument or effect. Have fun!
I like it. I do hear some pick noise coming through too strongly. I like the rhythm 12-string sound better than the lead 12-string part. Acoustic recording is very good.
Nice tune, Chapman. I also feel that the vocals could be brought forward a tad. I like what you did with the 12 string addition, but the guitar itself sounds thin and overly compressed. (That may be the cause of the wave of hiss I hear fading in at the end?) All the elements are there. It just needs some fine tuning. Keep up the good work!
