I've heard it quite a few times, "Soviet/Russian music/songs is/are stolen from the west". Here's a couple of examples of Soviet songs borrowed and adopted by the artists from other countries.
Пусть всегда будет солнце (Let there always be the sun), USSR. An anti-war song, the refrain goes, "let there always be the sun, let there always be the sky, let there always be Mommy, let there always be me".
Gabrielle — Hootenanny singers, Sweden. Hear anything familiar?
Now on to more rocking stuff. Звезда по имени Солнце (A star named sun) — Kino.
Surprisingly enough, A star called sun — Brazzaville. The lyrics are much different from the original, though.
Enjoy.

Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

Very interesting Sheena!
BTW, does anybody recognize the singer second from the right in Hootenanny Singers?
