You are probably right. As I studied this, I was thinking that those fingerer picks would be making a racket on the middle pickup.
I don't think it's tape--it looks like it is screwed on. But a guard against pick noise and scratching would be logical.
The future's uncertain but the end is always near.

I got to see him in Oxford Mississippi in the 90's...it was amazing to be sitting in a club, less than 15 feet away, while he peeled through all of the great songs and told stories...one of the greatest musical nights of my life.
At this show he DID do a meet and greet afterward and signed whtever you put in front of him.
I got a poster signed.
He is going to be the guest speaker at the Folk Alliance festival here in Memphis in February. I may get arrested for stalking.
