Well, I think that the bonding time is over now and I can safely unveil my new toy: the Vox Virage. I'll be posting pics as soon as I have my new digital camera figured out.
This guitar is simply one of the absolute best that I have ever had my hands on. The guitar is designed for the player from the headstock down. Mine is in the ash blonde color and is the double cutaway body. The guitar took me aback at first, and when I began playing it, I wasn't completely enamored with it. After giving it more of a shot and plugging it in, it's value in my opinion went up exponentially. I was first struck by the body which literally curves around my torso so that it sits in a optimal position for playing. It's truly a natural fit that makes it much easier to play than some other archtops that I've tried. The next thing that hit me was the tone. This guitar is a monster...it hits some of the most desirable tones that I can ever need and it sounds sweet no matter what configuration the pickups are in. There are several combinations and permutations that I've already played around with. As some may know, the pickups are switchable from a thinner, more Strat-like tone to a P-90 and then into a humbucker. There isn't a bad setting with any of these and it doesn't sound thin anywhere. The action and finish on this guitar are among the best that I have seen from another company besides Ric in a while. The neck joint is amazing and doesn't get in the way of playing as it does on many many guitars. The controls are absolutely intuitive in their organization. My only complaint is that there isn't a separate volume and tone for each pickup.
I can honestly say that this one was hard to get myself into at first, but it grew on me quickly. If you have the opportunity to check one out, do so. It can easily take the place of several high end hollow and semi-hollow body guitars.

Re: The NEW Christmas Toy
Congrats, Matt. I'm not a big fan of these, but I'm sure that if I got the chance to try one, I'm sure the same thing that happened to you will happen to me.
Re: The NEW Christmas Toy
They're harder to get used to, as is anything that is inherently "modern" for someone like myself who wants vintage reissue/vintage gear. Modern features and ideas definitely have their place in my collection too as I realized that I was painting myself into a corner and not giving some newer gear a chance to be experienced. The Virage is definitely not for everyone but it is a great piece of gear that is remarkably versatile.
I'm still working on the new camera, so pics are still in the works.

They have one of these at Bananas Music in San Rafael. It's real pretty; now I'll have to go plug it in and try it. Congratulations, it looks first-class.
All I wanna do is rock!
