Tailpiece on vintage 360's (unbound front)

Post by ric330 »

From all my research I can't find a picture of an (unbound front) 360 with a trapeze tailpiece... :?
I've found a couple with the vibrato (365's) but usually an "R" Tail like mine:

I have seen the trapeze on many double bound 360's though.

This one is sweet! Although it is a 12 string 360.

So what's the deal? Were the 360's (unbound front) available from the start with only the "R" tailpiece,
unless you ordered a 365 with the Vibrato?

Thanks for any help.

As far as I know, the rounded, unbound front (I think it is still referred to as the New Style) 360, started in 1965 or '66. I believe the R tailpiece was introduced just about the same time.

Hey thanks for the info.
I like the "R" on the unbound front 360, I was just curious.
Appreciate the reply.

If I remember correctly, the R tail was introduced around the same time as the 360 NS in '65-'66, and from that point on it was the only stop tailpiece they offered. Therefore, some OS 360's had trapezes and some had R tailpieces, but all NS with stop-tails had the R. Hopefully that makes sense.

The R tailpiece was introduced in 1964, both the RM 1993/12 and the N.S 360's (introduced in 1964 as well) had them

Got it, I was just guessing on the date. Would you say that there never was a 360NS that came with a trapeze? Personally, I prefer the NS with a trapeze, but I've never seen one come from the factory like that.

yeah, from what I know- I'd say there were no (or few, if any) NS 360's with a trapeze.

I like the trapeze as well, particularly on 12 string models....makes like so much easier.
