Tremoloa, anyone?

Post by kiramdear »

I am so stoked. My friend Brien dragged this out of his attic and thought it was something for me to have. He said it came from Sears Roebuck.

How right could he be? This is the coolest thing I've seen in ages. 8)

Anyone know how to play it?

You'll need a tube amp and two 4x12 cabs off course.

Thanks, Sven,

I bet you've got just the thing for me

First I have to find out where they hid the horseshoe pickup

But I did find a cool site all about these "Original Hawaiian Instruments": http://home.dejazzd.com/williams/QuickI ... emoloa.htm

I figured out how to play it but I can't tune it without a piano key :(

Kira, should be fun. I have a Hawaiian Tiple but it is 2000 miles away under a bed. Next trip to AZ I hope to bring it home.

That's an odd looking instrument.

Here's the right hand playing position. You put your thumh into the pick and pluck the notes at the markings underneath. Your thumb drags the slide into the right position when your pick is above the marking. Is that clear? It's hard to describe. With an upstroke the heavy slide bounces a bit and gives a nice tremolo. I's cool!

I have to find a tuning key for it. Right now it sounds like a broken piano, but I will try (having tuned it) to post a clip of me playing it for you guys (if you can stand it). :)

Nuts! :o Looks complicated. Let us know how it works out. :D I look forward to hearing the instrument on a recording of yours in the near future, Kira. :D

It's actually much simpler than it looks. As soon as I get it tuned you're going to hear me cover "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with it.

After I figure out how to plug it into a bunch of stomp boxes, that is
