Yes, I've heard both good and bad opinions, but I'm always interested in hearing more people's impressions of the Hipshot, especially if they can do direct comparison between it and the Original RIC version.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Cool! Just a quick reference. There are ZERO instructions included. Might as well get you a cheapie tap & die set ready to go. You will need it to setup a good permanent ground. Hipshot says to just pinch it in between the bridge and the body of the guitar!...Wow! Takes about 10 minutes to tap a small hole, and is what I suggest for a good clean permanent install for the ground.

I dunno. I didn't go to the expense and trouble to tap the bridge. Just fanned out the wire and trapped it under the bridge. My bass is dead quiet with no ground issues.

Off hand, a 4003 is the only bass I know of that has a mute with a ground wire soldered to it. Everything else, including RIC's 4004's have the wire pinched between the body and the bridge.

yep, the only soldered ground wires are on the factory 4001/4003 bridge....The 4004 basses have a hipshot or schaller bridge that rests on top of the body ....

I would not bother tapping the bridge, it is the easiest and most efficient way just to fan the wire and lay it between the bridge and the body..

Welcome Koy,

Great bass, cool mods, and nice collection. I'm sure the 4003 will more than hold its own against some of your aother great basses.

Thanks! I have had it about a week now, and its certainly making an impact! I can see where it will get a "top" ranking from me.
Going to be tough for it to surpass my "Hybrid" Warwick though! :D Played with the Ric O Sound some yesterday, and that was interesting. I can see where that will certainly have some useful applications!
