The Very Best Blues and Jazz Bass Players

Post by winston »

Let's look at who we believe are amongst the best blues and jazz bass players in the world. You can choose from any era and any style.

I'll start off with a bass player who plays blues, jazz and rock equally well..........Jack Bruce. Hands down is is one of my all time favourite bass players. His timing and phrasing is unique and long ago he created (in my mind at least) a whole new and exciting way of playing bass. He can play 4 string, 6 string, 8 string, upright you name it and he has done it all. One of the best IMO.

You said it all for me, George! 8)

I'm also a fan of Ray Brown & Ron Carter, and Willie Dixon sure can't be ignored at least for his contributions to modern blues.

Speaking of Jimmy Haslip....did anyone know that he plays lefty on a lefty bass but it's strung right handed :?:
Simply amazing to watch him.
