Scratch X Replacement?

NOT TOO SURE ABOUT THIS ONE....

I called Meguiar's today, being Joey is getting my little collection all tuned up, and we decided to TRY THIS on a cheap no name guitar....we haven't used it yet, so Mr. Curmudgeon, please let me know what you think.

I have in my hand a bottle of Meguiar's SWIRL X, SWIRL REMOVER. I called and spoke to Tom at Meguiar's and he said it is about 1/2 the strength of the ORIGINAL SCRATCH X. Basically, use it twice for the same result of Scratch X1.

MY MAIN CONCERN is what is printed on the back of the bottle...
"AVOID PROLONGED CONTACT TO PAINT". Although Tom said it is SAFE FOR CLEAR COATS.

SO.....any thoughts on this product?

Meguiar's Swirl X

Well, I found something to replace Scratch-X...
It's Kit Scratch-Out. I found it at Kragen awhile back:

It comes in paste (heavier duty, like a fine polishing compound) and liquid (lighter duty, like Scratch-X). The liquid is what you want to use. I used it on my JG test guitar, a badly-hazed and neglected 425V63. Good results--about 90% as good as Scratch-X. Caveat is not to bear down too much and use as clean a cotton cloth as possible.

Swirl removers are always meant to be used on power buffers, so it takes a lot of work to get results applying and rubbing by hand.

One other thing to try (I don't have any on hand right now) is Novus Plastic Polish #2. It was my first choice before Scratch-X came along a decade ago. It's readily available at plastics suppliers and online. I've also seen it at flight shops--it's used to polish acrylic plane windows and canopies.

I actually BOUGHT BOTH!

They were side by side in Walmart. The Swirl X was 8.69, and the Scratch Out was $1.89!!!

I'll put it to good use today!

The original formula Scratch X has been replaced with a not so efficent upgrade, Scratch X 2.

Novus Plastic Polish #2 as well as #1 can also be found at better tropical fish/aquarium shops and most hardware stores.

I can attest to Novus Plastic Polish. I have used it for decades on motorcycle windshields and it is the only thing we ever used on Plexiglas aircraft windshields, unless you wanted lots of scratches and swirls.
However, I haven't got around to using it on a guitar - yet.

I have been able to find it in some auto parts shops.
