Hi,
I thought the members of this forum might be interested to know about a Gene Parsons reissue that we've got coming out on March 10th. Here's the whole story:
Artist: Gene Parsons
Title: Kindling
With this exclusive release, we add Gene Parsons to the list of ex-Byrds (Gene Clark and Skip Battin being the others) whose solo work we’ve reissued, and this might be the most Byrds-ian of the roost, for joining Gene on almost every track is the unmistakable guitar work of Mr. Clarence White! But that’s not the only roots-rock bona fide Kindling has going for it; joining Gene and Clarence on this album are none other than Ralph Stanley, Gib Guilbeau and Vassar Clements (plus a bizarre cameo appearance by Red Callender on tuba). The result is, as Eugene Chadbourne writes on All-Music Guide, that “The best parts of this Gene Parsons album have that clear taste of a mountain stream.” So drink deep of this 1974 album; it appears on CD here for the first time, with new notes by Richie Unterberger and our customary sparkling remastering job. Includes Monument; Long Way Back; Do Not Disturb; Willin’; On the Spot; Take a City Bride; Sonic Bummer (great song title…wait till you hear it!); I Must Be a Tree; Drunkard’s Dream; Banjo Dog•, and •Back Again. A Collectors’ Choice Music exclusive, out March 10th!

If you like non-traditional bluegrass, this is a great album!

I just got my hands on the Kindling reissue today. It's absolutely beautiful. The remastering job is superb and it sounds fantastic. To say nothing of the excellent songs.
Re: Gene Parsons' Kindling Reissue Coming Soon!
Gene is a fantastic musician (Drums, Guitar, Banjo, Vocal, etc, etc.) I really dug his stuff with the Byrds and was very happy when "Kindling" was first released. What a fine album! And 1978's "Melodies", is another great LP ("My Kingdom for a Car" is worth the admission alone...)
I wrote to him a few years ago at his "Stringbender" site (http://www.stringbender.com/), inquiring about an older "B" bender guitar that I was considering buying at the time. He was very gracious and more than happy to advise me.
Gene is prominently featured on "The Byrds - Under Review" DVD and is quite informative - especially about the development of the "B" bender. He's still making music and is - in my opinion - one of the best things that ever happened to The Byrds.
PS: He's still selling those "B" benders if you 're in the market for one...
