Low E buzz on a new 1996 325
Hey all,
I just bought this 325 RM from Rumble Street and the low E has a buzz to it when its played open. As soon as you start to fret it its fine so it's just the open E that buzzes. When I push down on the low E string above the nut it plays fine as if it needs more tension?
I'm good with set ups so I tried adjusting the truss rods but can't seem to fix it. Its in new condition and has flat wound 12s on it so it should play fine.
What do you guys think? I have a 24 hour approval.

I believe that the slot at the nut is cut too deeply for the 6th string.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Is that common on new Rics? Can it be fixed with out changing the nut?

The slot is OK with the factory (compression-wound) strings. Flatwounds sit lower in the nut, just enough to make a difference in marginal cases.

Is there any way I can fix it and keep flats on it. Maybe by going up to 13s ?

Well I took it to Paul Wilczynski today and he set it up and it plays fine now!
Thanks again Paul for helping me out!

Thanks dpowell,
The 330 is a 67, thats my fave. I also have a 450 made in 67 I love but I'm trying to sell it to help pay for the new 325.

Philip: I am glad you got the buzz sorted out.
