Flight of the Conchords and NZ

Post by jdogric12 »

FOTC had a great new episode last night where Jemaine gets wasted at a nightclub and wakes up next to an Australian girl... absolutely hilarious. So, tell me a bit about this supposed rivalry between Oz & NZ please, I'm more and more curious every day.

There is no rivalry between Australia and New Zealand because Australia is the best, and New Zealand is not!

Hi JD,

To get a vague idea of the issue, substitute Canada for NZ and the US for Australia.

Oddly, in my experience, NZers and Aussies seem to get on very well when working and living offshore. Being an NZer in Oz or an Aussie in NZ is a totally different kettle of fish. You need an extremely thick skin and/or the martial arts skills of Jackie Chan to survive.

I dig The Bats as much as the Church. Died Pretty as much as Split Enz, What Goes On? as much as Flying Nun. (labels)
I think the Clean just beats out Airsupply though....hahaha
I tell you what though, I love this TV show! so many nuances....

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Robert Muldoon once said, "New Zealanders who leave for Australia raise the IQ of both countries".

What would he know, his nickname was Piggy.

Here's a good NZ band.

I once stood in line in the McMurdo Station chow hall right behind "Piggy" Muldoon and Edmund Hillary...two guys who, apart from the 25th anniversary of Scott Base, would never have hung out together. I saw The Bats once at Otago University in Dunedin...borrowed the bass player's axe at the end of their set to jam with their amazing drummer and jammed some insane funk for about fifteen minutes 'til some geezer appeared and threatened to call the cops if we didn't stop. Then I noticed I had split my thumb open and sprayed blood all over the kid's bass...bleedin' Yanks!

Anyways, I 'heart' FOC...that show, even tho' it's not set in 'Godzone', will tell you everything you need to know about kiwis, and I absolutely mean that in the most complimentary way....
