George's "This is Love" Video

Post by simer4001 »

Has anyone seen this video? George plays what looks like a 450 with some type of cover over the bridge pickup. It appears to be jetglo with a gold metal pickguard. The headstock is walnut or some kind of dark wood with a dark TRC. He was playing slide with it. Pretty cool. I caught it on VH1 this afternoon. I've seen this video dozens of times and never noticed before.

I think it's on the Dark Horse Years DVD, not too sure tho, but I've seen him play a 450 on that DVD if I recall correctly.

I think it's an early '60 Rickenbacker 420(single pick-up) but I could be remembering wrong. He pulls it out of the original case on an ocean beach somewhere with waves crashing around him. Very cool video for sure and a great song. That guitar was borrowed from Norm's Rare Guitars for the video. I could have bought it(should have) for around $4000 way back then. Seemed like too much money as the same guitar at that time(with no claim to fame) was going for around $350-500.

You can download the video from fastfocus.tv as well as a couple of Beatles videos (Get Back and Don't let Me Down).

Larry: What were you thinking? How many of us could get a Rickenbacker played by George Harrison for $4,000! Just kidding, there is a limit to everything. A great story nonetheless and thanks for passing it on.

Yes Peter, hindsight is always 20-20! I remember that one well. At the same time I could have bought back my '61 fire-glo Rickenbacker 360 that George is photographed with in the November of '87 Guitar Player magazine article. He wanted $6000 for that back then so I should have gone to the bank and borrowed $10000! I still find it amazing that George would end up getting photographed with my old guitar. That was great.

Looks to me that it was filmed near Hana, Maui, where George had a house (and a yellow VW bug).

I believe you are exactly right. This is th ehose that someone had scaled the cliff and broke into. The person was living inthe house for about a week before George's brother-in-law found a window open and discovered the person in the home. Doing their laundry if I recall.
