Is Parker Fly?

This guy's sales technique is about as good as his guitar playing, but what do you think? Has anyone tried the nylon or bronze models either? They're pretty pricey but I like the part about 4 pounds

$11,999for a limited edition Adrian Belew model with piezo, Dimarzio bridge, sustainiac neck, Line 6 Variax, and a 13 pin output
$9,9999 for the limited edition solid koa, and
$3,9999 for the Fly Mojo, which appears to be their "standard" model.

Hmmm, that's a 381, 360/12, 330, 620, and a 4003 at or near list price for the price of the Belew model.I think you'll see pigs fly out of me before I plop down a wad of cash like that on these instruments, no matter how nice they play and sound, or are built

But hey, if folks are shelling out as much or more on these custom shop Fender guitars, I'm sure these guys will have buyers as well.

Joni Mitchell used one in a new DVD I just got, the Bronze Fly model ($3200). On her it looked good, but then just about anything would. I'll try to find a clip because the sound was great. She used it on one of her albums from the early nineties.

Me, I don't like the pickup models nor the opaque finishes on any of them. Joni's was a sort of amber mapleglo,

Nice Joni, Kira! I see she has her GK2 pickup on the Fly for her Roland VG Guitar synth.

I've seen her twice, the first time was the Shadow & Light tour, then I saw her on the Wild Things Run Fast tour.

Thanks! I don't know the first thing about the pickups or the rig. But I like the clean look better on her Fly. The pickups are ugly on the others, I find. And the egg-slicer headstocks have to go.

Yeah, I've worshipped Joni ever since her first record. She's held up remarkably well through the years and never let fame spoil her.

Yeah, I don't doubt their quality. But I need to analyze the esthetic points to death, it's just what I do. If someone gave me one as pretty as Joni's I'd take it warts and all and love it, I'm sure.

I checked out the Roland VG systems too. Impressive, and makes Joni's guitar cost about $4500. Yeesh, I'd rather have a new 700 or 730, or a lovely Martin for my acoustic sound for that kind of scratch.

At the last Canadian Confluence, the guy who hosted it was talking about his Fly. I think it was a Mojo. He said it was the best workhorse guitar he ever had, and this is a guy who has a warehouse full of vintage gear. He hosted an open stage night and would use that because he could get so many different tones out of it.
I think they are awesome. I would love to have one, but a $4k guitar is not in the financial plan.

Greg, thanks for that. It was some scary shredding indeed. I'm impressed with the range of tones you can get with these guitars.

I will give Parkers credit for being probably the most comfortable guitar I've ever picked up.

Parker did happen to figure out some curves that people didn't even know they wanted, and coupled with their incredible light weight---they are amazingly comfortable.

For some reason though, I care very little about comfort. The tones and style they give are completely uninspiring (and that PRICE TAG!!)

I really liked the Fly when it first came out in '92. Kind of Steinberger meets super-Strat vibe. I'm more retro than futuristic in my tastes though, so in the end it wasn't for me. The Belew signature edition strike me as being a tad expensive. Given the OLP Tony Levin signature bass cost well under $1k, I wonder if there is friction in the King Crimson camp?
