Re: Tokai Rockinbetter ???
Naw, it's badly bad.
Gotta have those Rick strings to make it sound "authentic".
Or, could it be because you can then put "Rickenbacker" into the title of the auction, and thus turn up in search results?
Honestly, the cynicism of some sellers...

...... funny how the sellers nearly always claim "better than the real thing"!!

I don't know, if it's really a Tokai, it's probably a decent guitar. I've played a few Tokai Love Rock models that I would take over a real Les Paul. And their Strat copies aren't bad either.
Jangle, Chime & Twang.
Re: Tokai Rockinbetter ???
Yeah, the Japanese-made Tokais have a pretty strong following, particularly in the LP community. Were they doing the Ric copies while they were still mostly built in Japan?

I like the look of that Greco!
I've played a few of those Rockinbetter Tokai's ,they're not great
,head pitch/angle is to far back, just feels wrong.
There was a 12 string one with an F hole, but 24 frets, a few yaers back at my local too.

Well, seems opinions are divided... in the meantime the listing's been removed, it seems.
I'll stick to the real thing - now I got one I don't see why I should get a copy

I'm actually a big fan of Japanese Les Paul copies (Greco, Burny, Tokai, Edwards, Orville etc...) because I think they picked up where Gibson slacked off and was building rubbish for huge money. Plus Gibson dropped the ball legally on protecting their own stuff, so it's really free game.
Rickenbacker, however, hasn't had any "dark years," so aside from legal issues, there really isn't any reason to look at a Tokai Ric. I owned one once (years ago..), and no.....it wasn't remotely like a real ric, even if it looked similar from 20 feet away. Put your money where it counts.
Re: Tokai Rockinbetter ???
I don,t know about the Tokai Rockinbetter guitars, but I own a Tokai LS120 Love Rock , It is one of the ( Law suit ) guitars. An exact copy of a 59 les paul with long tennon and Gotoh mk2 PAF,s , an amazingly good guitar, I wouldn,t trade it for an 80,s Gibson or probably new model Les Paul

Re: Tokai Rockinbetter ???
They're still making the "Love Rock" guitars, IIRC.
Re: Tokai Rockinbetter ???
Ironic, I just found one of these:

Re: Tokai Rockinbetter ???
Dan, yep, but the art in this case I think is finding the Japanese-made instruments--those are the ones commanding the pretty high prices, at least in the LP and Strat/Tele clone world.dpowell wrote:They're still making the "Love Rock" guitars, IIRC.
I understand they are still making some Tokai LP and Strat models in Japan (kinda like the Epi Elitist line), but I'm pretty sure Ric's aren't part of their current repertoire.
