Musty Amp
Paul,
Picked up a nice silverface Fender Deluxe Reverb yesterday...fine shape (was stored in it's original cover) for a number of years. The back of the amp has a bit of a musty smell...I'm thinking maybe a good cleaning with simple green or???
Thanks!!

Re: Musty Amp
That might be a good start. You're removing the back covers, et cetera, as part of the process, yes?
Re: Musty Amp
Yes..I can pull the chassis also if needed...paologregorio wrote:That might be a good start. You're removing the back covers, et cetera, as part of the process, yes?

Re: Musty Amp
Good idea. I'd suggest going to the extent of removing the reverb tank bag and cleaning around that, as well as removing the reverb tank from the tank bag, cleaning the tank bag, and checking the tank for mold/mold residue, et cetera.kenposurf wrote:Yes..I can pull the chassis also if needed...paologregorio wrote:That might be a good start. Re: Musty Amp
This musty thing is going to be the plywood.
Sprinkle an entire can of Carpet-Fresh into a large lawn trash bag. Put the bag on a flat surface and place three or four small (1 pint) paint cans into the bag; set the amp on the cans and seal the bag. Put it into the sun for a couple of days.
Pull the amp out of the bag. Empty the Carpet-Fresh crystals into a 2 1/2 quart saucepan and add 1 quart of water. Bring to a boil and let simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
Serves 6.

Tried that already...actually a little cleaning and airing out ..took away nearly all the odor..jingle_jangle wrote:This musty thing is going to be the plywood.

Inadvisable amplifier stink replacement therapy techniques evidently employed by other musicians I've known:
1. Skunks
2. Socks
3. Vomit
4. Eau Du Groupie Disgusto
5. Chesterfields and Jack Daniels
6. Old kitty
Great to see you today, George.

Thanks, Kira. Though it may be dangerous to encourage me, I think my contribution on these fora is chiefly comic relief.
