MXR Dyna Comp -- The Holy Grail?

Post by JakeK »

I told you about this last night, Mike.

So, in this long saga of compressors, I first bought a Danelectro Surf and Turf. As time went on, my ears started to understand that it wasn't doing much. I then proceded to buy a Boss CS-3. A lot of money, and made the guitar's sound too squashed and country twangy.

While in Orlando (a few days before I met up with Jdog), I stumbled upon a MXR Dyna Comp, hearing positive things about it over at the Corporate Forum. I got home, ran the signal path as this: guitar > Dyna Comp > Fuzz Face > amp. I turned on the Dyna Comp, and played the "Feel a Whole Lot Better" riff. I thought I was in heaven! Then I played "You Can't Do That", nailed the sound. Then the big one: "Can't Explain" by The Who. NAILED the tone.

I love the Dyna Comp, great pedal for a great price (on sale when I got it, too!). I believe it can sustain (pun somewhat intended) 'til I get a Janglebox.

The Dyna Comp is a cool pedal Jake, but you've now been through three compressors - why not just bite the bullet and try the Janglebox already?

Sheesh, I start a thread almost a month ago that no one touches, and now people wanna talk about it. So, let me try it again, does anybody use one for anything other than guitar, and whatever you use it for(including guitar), what are your settings?

It just appears that this is a very popular pedal in Rick land, and was looking to see what your experiences might be.

John - You're right. I better get the pennies ready...

Mike - I have the "Level" setting at 3 o'clock and the "Sensitivity" setting at 5 o'clock. I don't play any other instruments, so I can't really say.

Diamond Compressor. Absolutely superb, really makes a difference to my sound when it's not on- I play with it on at all times, either to smooth out my chords and let the jangle shine, or as a boost.

and if it's good enough for Johnny Marr, it's good enough for me.
